Ministry Of Justice (Botswana)
The Ministry of Justice is the Botswana ministry responsible for overseeing law enforcement. It was created by President Mokgweetsi Masisi in 2022 during a reorganization of the Cabinet of Botswana. Prior to this, the Ministry of Defence, Justice and Security served as the government's justice ministry. Mokgweetsi Masisi
Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi (born 21 July 1961) is the fifth and current President of Botswana, serving since 2018. He served as the 8th Vice President of Botswana from 12 November 2014 to 1 April 2018. He was a Member of Parliament in the National Assembly for the Moshupa-Manyana constituency from 2009 to 2018. Initially having a good relationship with former President Ian Khama, who appointed Masisi as Vice President, the two later clashed over a ban on elephant hunting, and Khama has since accused Masisi of having "stifled dissent". Coming to power in the 2019 elections, the opposition claimed irregularities and electoral fraud, however an observation mission from the African Union reported that the elections were conducted transparently and met international standards. Machana Ronald Shamukuni
Machana Ronald Shamukuni is a Botswana politician that has served as the Minister of Justice since the department's creation in 2022. He is a member of the National Assembly for the constituency of Chobe. Career Shamukuni was elected to represent Chobe in the National Assembly in the 2014 general election when he defeated BCP candidate Gibson Nshimwe, receiving 4,114 votes over Nshimwe's 3,166. During his first term, Shamukuni was appointed Assistant Minister of Presidential Affairs. He won reelection in 2019 against UDC candidate Simasiku Mapulanga, receiving 4,575 votes over Mapulanga's 3,200. When his second term began, President Mokgweetsi Masisi did not retain him in the new cabinet.
