The Minister of State for European Affairs is a Minister of State (Ireland), junior ministerial post at the Department of the Taoiseach and the Department of Foreign Affairs (Ireland), Department of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Ireland with special responsibility for European Union, European Affairs. The Minister works with the Taoiseach and the Minister for Foreign Affairs (Ireland), Minister for Foreign Affairs. The Minister of State does not hold Cabinet (government), cabinet rank. A Minister of State ( ga, Aire Stáit) in Republic of Ireland, Ireland (also called a junior minister) is of non-cabinet rank attached to one or more Department of State (Ireland), Departments of State of the Government of Ireland and assists the Minister of the Government responsible for that Department. Appointment Unlike senior government ministers, which are appointed by the President of Ireland on the advice (constitutional), advice of the Taoiseach and the prior approval of Dáil Éireann, Ministers of State are appointed directly by the government, on the nomination of the Taoiseach. Tom Kitt (politician)
Tom Kitt (born 11 July 1952) is an Irish former Fianna Fáil politician. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin South constituency from 1987 to 2011, and a Minister of State from 1992 to 1994 and from 1997 to 2008. Early and private life Tom Kitt was born in Galway and educated at St Jarlath's College, Tuam and St Patrick's College of Education, Dublin. Kitt worked as a primary school teacher before becoming involved in local politics. Kitt has run several marathons. Dara Murphy (born 2 December 1969) is a former Irish Fine Gael politician who served as a Minister of State from 2014 to 2017 and Lord Mayor of Cork from 2009 to 2010. Lucinda Creighton (born 20 January 1980) is an Irish businesswoman and former politician, who served as Minister of State for European Affairs from 2011 to 2013. She was leader of Renua from its March 2015 foundation until May 2016, and served as a Teachta Dála (TD) representing Dublin South-East from 2007 to 2016. Noel Treacy (18 December 1951 – 2 February 2022) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician who served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Galway East constituency from 1982 to 2011.
