The Minister of Defence ( uk, Міністр оборони, translit=Ministr oborony) is the defence minister of Ukraine and head of the Ministry of Defence, which is in charge of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the second-largest military power in Europe after its Russian counterpart. The Minister of Defence is appointed by the President, but this has to be confirmed by a majority vote in the Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine's parliament). Mykhailo Bronislavovych Yezhel ( uk, Михайло Броніславович Єжель) is the former Minister of Defence of Ukraine (from 2010 to 2012) and a former Commander of the Ukrainian Navy (from 2001 to 2003).
