Minister For Defence Of Luxembourg
The Minister for Defence (french: Ministre de la Défense) is a position in the Luxembourg cabinet. Among other competences, the Minister for Defence is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and deployment of the armed forces, for veterans, for aiding in the execution of the orders of the Commander-in-Chief, the Grand Duke. The position has existed since 5 November 1937. From its creation until 6 February 1969, the position's name was ''Minister for the Armed Force'' (''Ministre de la Force Armée''). From 1969 until 7 August 1999, the official title of the office was ''Minister for the Public Force'' (''Ministre de la Force publique''). In 1999, the briefs of international cooperation and humanitarian relief were added to that of defence, creating the office of ''Minister for Cooperation, Humanitarian Action, and Defence'' (french: Ministre de la Coopération, de l’Action humanitaire, et de la Défense). Émile Krieps
Émile Krieps (4 January 1920 – 30 September 1998) was a Luxembourgish resistance leader, soldier, and politician. A member of the Democratic Party, Krieps served in cabinets under Pierre Werner and Gaston Thorn. For his services in the Second World War, Krieps was awarded honours from several countries. These honours included the Luxembourg War Cross, both the French and the Belgian War Cross, and the British King's Medal for Courage in the Cause of Freedom. Xavier Bettel
Xavier Bettel (; born 3 March 1973) is a Luxembourger lawyer and politician serving as Prime Minister of Luxembourg since 2013. He was previously a member of the Chamber of Deputies (1999–2013) and Mayor of Luxembourg City (2011–2013). Bettel is a member of the Democratic Party (DP). Following the 2013 general election, he took office as Prime Minister and succeeded Jean-Claude Juncker of the Christian Social People's Party (CSV). Etienne Schneider
Etienne Schneider (; born 29 January 1971) is a Luxembourg politician and economist of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP). He was a municipal councillor in Kayl from 1995 to 2005, and from 1997 to 2004, he was secretary general of the parliamentary group of the LSAP in Parliament. He was elected first alderman of the municipality of Kayl in 2005, a mandate he held until May 2010. Schneider was appointed Minister of the Economy and Foreign Trade on 1 February 2012. Jean-Louis Schiltz (born 14 August 1964 in Luxembourg City) is a Luxembourgian lawyer and retired politician for the Christian Social People's Party (CSV). Luc Frieden (born 16 September 1963) is a Luxembourgish politician, lawyer, and business executive. He has held several posts in the cabinet of Luxembourg, including as Minister for Justice (1998–2009), Minister for Defence (2004–2006), and Minister for Finances (2009–2013). He is a member of the Trilateral Commission. Charles Goerens (born 6 February 1952) is a Luxembourgish politician and Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from Luxembourg. He is a member of the Democratic Party, part of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe. Jacques François Poos (3 June 1935 – 19 February 2022) was a Luxembourgish politician. Early life and education Born in 1935, in Luxembourg, Poos was a trained economist and became a doctor of economics in 1961, when he graduated from the University of Lausanne.
