Mingyuan Hu
Mingyuan Hu is a British historian of art and literature. Hu read Classics, Philosophy, and Art History at the University of Glasgow and received the Herkless Prize in 2008. From the same university she received her PhD in Literary History. She was Lecturer in Art Histories of Asia at the University of Leeds, and is Research Associate at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Humboldt-Universität Zu Berlin
Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (german: Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, abbreviated HU Berlin) is a German public research university in the central borough of Mitte in Berlin. It was established by Frederick William III on the initiative of Wilhelm von Humboldt, Johann Gottlieb Fichte and Friedrich Ernst Daniel Schleiermacher as the University of Berlin () in 1809, and opened in 1810, making it the oldest of Berlin's four universities. From 1828 until its closure in 1945, it was named Friedrich Wilhelm University (german: Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität). During the Cold War, the university found itself in East Berlin and was ''de facto'' split in two when the Free University of Berlin opened in West Berlin. Fou Lei
Fu Lei (Fou Lei; ; courtesy name Nu'an 怒安, pseudonym Nu'an 怒庵; 1908–1966) was a Chinese translator and critic. His translation theory was dubbed the most influential in French-Chinese translation. He was known for his renowned renditions of Balzac and Romain Rolland. Born in Nanhui, today a district of Shanghai, Fu was raised by his mother. Between 1928 and 1931 he read literature and art history in Paris, befriending, amongst others, Jacques Maritain and Jean Daniélou. Between 1932 and 1934 he taught art history at Shanghai Art Academy. An occasional critic and curator, for the most part of his working life, Fu Lei translated full-time. In 1958 Fu was labelled a rightist in the Anti-Rightist Movement, and was politically persecuted. In 1966, at the beginning of the Cultural Revolution, he and his wife Zhu Meifu committed suicide. Mu Xin (artist)
Mu Xin (Chinese language, Chinese: 木心) is the pen name of Sun Pu (Traditional Chinese characters, Chinese: 孙璞; February 14, 1927 - December 21, 2011), courtesy name Yangzhong (Traditional Chinese characters, Chinese: 仰中), a Chinese painter, poet and writer. His works draw on both Chinese and Western traditions. The pen name Mu Xin is derived from Buddhist thoughts, meaning an educator with true heart. Biography Mu Xin was born on February 14, 1927 in Wuzhen, a historic town in Zhejiang, China, into a wealthy and prestigious family with businesses interests in Shanghai. In his early life, Mu Xin received traditional literati education. In 1946, Mu Xin started to study at the Academy of Fine Arts at Shanghai University. Mu Xin was dismissed from school by the order of the mayor of Shanghai for leading student movements in the Academy.
