Ming Dynasty (2019 TV Series)
''Ming Dynasty'' is a 2019 Chinese historical television series starring Tang Wei and Zhu Yawen, which aired on Hunan Television until 2020. It is adapted from the novel ''The Chronicle of the Six Eras'' () by Lianjing Zhuyi (), which is a fictionalised account of the life of Empress Sun, who was an empress consort of the Xuande Emperor. The show gained much attention and viewership from non-Chinese viewers, having already achieved high ratings in mainland China, despite the director taking on an artistic interpretation of the source material. Synopsis The TV series started with the violent transition of power from the Jianwen Emperor to the Yongle Emperor during the Ming Dynasty. The Jianwen Emperor was chosen to be emperor by his grandfather, the founder of the Ming dynasty, the Hongwu Emperor. Sima Guang
Sima Guang (17 November 1019 – 11 October 1086), courtesy name Junshi, was a Chinese historian, politician, and writer. He was a high-ranking Song dynasty scholar-official who authored the monumental history book ''Zizhi Tongjian''. Sima was a political conservative who opposed Wang Anshi's reforms. Empress Qian
Empress Qian (; 1426 – 15 July 1468) was a Chinese empress consort during the Ming dynasty, married to the Zhengtong Emperor. She was addressed posthumously as Empress Xiaozhuangrui () Early life There is no record of Empress Qian's birth name, other than that she was a member of the clan ''Qian'' (). She married the Zhengtong Emperor on 8 June 1442, and became his primary consort and empress. Zhu Gaoxu
Zhu Gaoxu (; 30 December 1380 – 6 October 1426), the Prince of Gaoyang (高陽王, created 1395), later the Prince of Han (漢王, created 1404), was the second son of the Yongle Emperor and Empress Renxiaowen. Zhu Gaoxu fought with his elder brother Zhu Gaochi (the future Hongxi Emperor) for the throne. Empress Zhang (Hongxi)
Empress Chengxiaozhao (誠孝昭皇后; 1379 – 20 November 1442), of the Zhang clan, was a Chinese empress consort of the Ming dynasty, married to the fourth Ming ruler, the Hongxi Emperor (Zhu Gaozhi 1378–1425). He only ruled for one year, so she then served as Empress dowager after the accession of her son the Xuande Emperor. She later served as the Regent of China during the minority of the reign of her grandson, Emperor Yingzong of Ming, from 1435 until 1442. Zhu Qizhen
Emperor Yingzong of Ming (; 29 November 1427 – 23 February 1464), personal name Zhu Qizhen (), was the sixth and eighth Emperor of the Ming dynasty. He ascended the throne as the Zhengtong Emperor () in 1435, but was forced to abdicate in 1449, in favour of his younger brother the Jingtai Emperor, after being captured by the Northern Yuan dynasty during the Tumu Crisis.
