Milestone
A milestone is a numbered marker placed on a route such as a road, railway line, canal or boundary. They can indicate the distance to towns, cities, and other places or landmarks; or they can give their position on the route relative to some datum location. On roads they are typically located at the side or in a median or central reservation. They are alternatively known as mile markers, mileposts or mile posts (sometimes abbreviated MPs). A "kilometric point" is a term used in metricated areas, where distances are commonly measured in kilometres instead of miles. "Distance marker" is a generic unit-agnostic term. Milestones are installed to provide linear referencing points along the road. This can be used to reassure travellers that the proper path is being followed, and to indicate either distance travelled or the remaining distance to a destination. Such references are also used by maintenance engineers and emergency services to direct them to specific points where th ...

Milestones (instrumental Composition)
"Milestones" is a jazz composition written by Miles Davis. It appears on the album of the same name in 1958. It has since become a jazz standard. "Milestones" is the first example of Miles composing in a modal style and experimentation in this piece led to the writing of " So What" from the 1959 album '' Kind of Blue''. The song's modes consist of G Dorian for 16 bars, A Aeolian for another 16 bars, and then back to G Dorian for the last eight bars, then the progression repeats. Originally titled "Miles" on the initial album pressings, people soon began referring to the piece as "Milestones" rather than "Miles". On later editions of the album the title was changed. The musicians who performed on "Milestones" are: *Miles Davis – trumpet * Cannonball Adderley – alto saxophone *John Coltrane – tenor saxophone *Red Garland – piano *Paul Chambers – double bass *Philly Joe Jones – drums Only Adderley, Davis, and Coltrane solo. 1947 song "Milestones" is also the titl ...

Milestones (Rolling Stones Album)
''Milestones'' is a compilation album by The Rolling Stones, released in 1972 by Decca Records. It reached number 14 on the UK Albums Chart. Less popular and well known than the contemporaneous compilation album ''Hot Rocks 1964–1971'', it was released by Decca without the consent or input from the band. Due to the nature of their contract prior to 1971, the band lost all rights to releases of their own music prior to 1971; those rights instead are held jointly by ABKCO Records and Decca Records. Both ABKCO and Decca would continue to release compilation albums, without input from the band, over the next several decades. The front cover is a closeup of Mick Jagger live, while the back cover shows the faces of the rest of the band's original lineup: Brian Jones, Keith Richards, Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts, in four boxes much like The Beatles Let It Be front cover. Milestones (Miles Davis Album)
''Milestones'' is a studio album by American jazz trumpeter, bandleader, and composer Miles Davis. It was recorded with his "first great quintet" augmented as a sextet and released in 1958 by Columbia Records. Composition Tenor saxophonist John Coltrane's return to Davis' group in 1958 coincided with the "modal phase" albums: ''Milestones'' and ''Kind of Blue'' (1959) are both considered essential examples of 1950s modern jazz. Davis at this point was experimenting with modes – scale patterns other than major and minor. Davis plays both trumpet and piano on "Sid's Ahead", a blues which is reminiscent of "Walkin'". He plays trumpet in the ensemble passages and solos on trumpet but moves to the piano to accompany the saxophonists in Garland's absence. "Billy Boy" is a solo feature for Garland and the rhythm section. Critical reception In a five-star review, AllMusic's Thom Jurek called ''Milestones'' a classic album with blues material in both bebop and post-bop veins, as ...
