Milan Cadorna Railway Station
Milano Cadorna is a commuter railway station located near the Castello Sforzesco in Milan, Italy. History The original station, built in wood in the style of a chalet, was opened in 1879. This was enlarged in 1920, but the station was destroyed during the bombing raids of the city in the Second World War. The current structure and the homonymous square were completely restored in 1999 under a Gae Aulenti project. The station is named after the General of the Italian Army Luigi Cadorna. Transport Passenger services from this station, by commuter, suburban, regional and express trains, are operated by Trenord. Local public transportation '' Piazzale Cadorna'' (Cadorna square, in front of the station) is a hub of Milan's public transport: it features Cadorna junction underground station (underground lines M1 and M2) and stops or headlines for one tramway line (1) and eleven bus lines (NM1, NM2, N25, N26, N50, N57, N94, 50, 58, 61 and 94). Rail transport (also known as train transport) is a means of transport that transfers passengers and goods on wheeled vehicles running on rails, which are incorporated in tracks. Ferrovienord (prior to 2006, Ferrovie Nord Milano Esercizio) is an Italian transport company managing the network of regional railway concessions owned by the group in northern Italy. It is a subsidiary of Ferrovie Nord Milano. History The company was founded in 1985, as part of the transformation of Ferrovie Nord Milano SpA (FNM), a holding company. Its original name was ''Ferrovie Nord Milano Esercizio'' (FNME) and its objects were the management and maintenance of the FMN rail network and transport services on the network. Milan has 23 railway stations in use today. Of these, 18 are managed by RFI, while the remaining 6 are operated by Ferrovienord. Malpensa Aeroporto Terminal 2 is a railway station serving Terminal 2 of Milan-Malpensa Airport. It opened in 2016 with the 3.4 kilometer railway extension from the Terminal 1 railway station, thus becoming the western terminus of the Busto Arsizio–Malpensa Airport railway, managed by Ferrovienord. Milano Bovisa is a railway station in Bovisa, Milan, Italy. It opened in 1879 and is now one of the key nodes of the Milan suburban railway service, and of the Trenord regional network in northern Lombardy. It is located in Piazza Emilio Alfieri.
