Mikhail Sidorov (born June 25, 1997) is a Russian professional ice hockey defenceman who currently plays for HC Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Playing career Sidorov made his debut in the KHL with Ak Bars Kazan in the 2015–16 season. After claiming the Gagarin Cup with Kazan in the 2017–18 season, Sidorov went down to Supreme Hockey League in the affiliated club Bars Kazan. HC Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk (russian: Нефтехимик Нижнекамск, en, Nizhnekamsk Petrochemist) is a professional ice hockey team based in Nizhnekamsk, in the Tatarstan, a federal subject of the Russian Federation. They are members of the Kharlamov Division in the Kontinental Hockey League. History Neftekhimik was founded October 23, 1968 by workers of the Nizhnekamsk Petrochemical plant to represent Nizhnekamsk in the Tatar ASSR ice hockey championship. 2017–18 KHL Season
The 2017–18 KHL season was the tenth season of the Kontinental Hockey League. The season started on 21 August 2017 and ended on 22 April 2018. The league accommodated a 33 day Olympic break, to allow its players to participate in the 2018 Winter Olympics in February. Team changes The Croatian club Medveščak Zagreb relocated back to the Austrian Hockey League, and Russian club Metallurg Novokuznetsk was relegated to the Supreme Hockey League, to bring the total number of KHL teams to 27. March 2018 KHL announced that two teams going to drop out after this season and next season have 25 teams. Yugra and Lada Togliatti are the teams that will not continue in KHL. The Supreme Hockey League (SHL) (russian: Высшая хоккейная лига (ВХЛ), links=no, ''Vysshaya hokkeinaya liga (VHL)''), also known as the Major Hockey League or Higher Hockey League (HHL), is a professional ice hockey league in Eurasia, and the second highest level of Russian hockey. The Gagarin Cup (russian: Кубок Гагарина, Kubok Gagarina) is the trophy presented to the winner of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) playoffs, and is named after Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, the first human in space. The Cup was supposedly named after Gagarin because the last possible game of the inaugural KHL season would take place on April 12, the anniversary date of Gagarin's flight. After the end of the KHL's regular season, sixteen teams participate in the playoffs. The 1/8 and quarter-finals were a best-of-five series during the first season, and the semi-finals and finals were a best-of-seven series during the first season. Conferences were established for the second season.
