Mike O'Brien (hurler)
Mike O'Brien (born 1978) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Glenroe and with the Limerick senior inter-county team. Early & private life Mike O'Brien was born in Glenroe, County Limerick in 1978. He was educated locally at Glenroe NS and went on to complete a law degree at Trinity College in the 1990s, playing both Sigerson and Fitzgibbon Cup. He returned home to the land following the completion of his degree and is now a farmer by profession. Playing career Club O'Brien plays his club hurling with his local Glenroe club and has enjoyed some success. Although not a senior club O'Brien has won a junior county title. Inter-county O'Brien first came to prominence on the inter-county scene as a member of the Limerick intermediate hurling team. He won both Munster and All-Ireland medals at this level in 1998. Glenroe GAA
Glenroe Hurling Club is one of the oldest clubs affiliated to the Gaelic Athletic Association. It plays hurling and formerly gaelic football. It plays in competitions organized by Limerick GAA. Located in the Ballyhoura Mountains, County Limerick, Ireland, local parish teams played hurling games from long before the famine of the 1840s and local teams played before the GAA's foundation. History Glenroe became an affiliated club in the 1890s after the foundation of the GAA in 1884. Currently the team plays at intermediate grade. Hurling
Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. The GAA Hurling Intermediate All-Ireland Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Intermediate Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). Effectively contested by the second string teams of the top inter-county hurling sides in Ireland, the tournament has taken place every year since 1997—having originally been run between 1961 and 1973.
