Michael "Mike" Collier Connell is an American musician best known as the leader, guitarist and primary songwriter of The Connells, an American band from Raleigh, North Carolina. They play a guitar-oriented, melodic jangle pop type of rock music with introspective lyrics that reflect themes and history of the American South. Origins Mike and his identical twin, John, were born on March 15, 1959. In 1984, Mike Connell formed the band that bears his and younger brother David's surname, born on May 27, 1961. History The Connell brothers moved around in their early years, as their father was in medical school and getting a degree in cancer research at Duke University. Mike was born in Georgia, and David was born in the Raleigh area, while their dad was working under a family practice physician. Mike Connell (born 1 November 1956 in Mayfair, Johannesburg, South Africa) is a former professional footballer who spent most of his career as a defender. He played professionally in his native South Africa as well as in the North American Soccer League (NASL), mostly with the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Connell earned the nickname "Iron Mike" by starting in an NASL record 179 consecutive regular season matches and appeared in 252 games overall, which was third in league history. Connell was also a two time first-team NASL all star. National team Through the early 1970s, Connell was selected to the all star teams and in 1971 and 1972 was selected to the South African Schoolboy team. Sir Michael Bryan Connell (6 August 1939 – 30 January 2013) was a British barrister and High Court judge who sat in the Family Division from 1991 to 2002. A family law specialist, he was also noted for his involvement in horse racing. Biography The son of Lorraine "Larry" Connell, founder of the eponymous estate agency, and of Joan Connell, Michael Connell was educated at Harrow School and Brasenose College, Oxford. He was called to the bar by the Inner Temple in 1962 and joined chambers at Queen Elizabeth Buildings, where he eventually came to specialise in family law. He became a QC in 1981. After serving as a recorder from 1980 to 1991, Connell was appointed to the High Court in 1991 and received the customary knighthood. Michael Louis Connell (November 30, 1963 – December 19, 2008) was a high-level Republican consultant who was subpoenaed in a case regarding alleged tampering with the 2004 U.S. Presidential election and a case involving thousands of missing emails pertaining to the political firing of U.S. Attorneys. Michael Connell (born July 2, 1975) is an American professional golfer. Connell turned professional in 1998 and spent many years playing on a variety of mini-tours, winning five tournaments on the NGA Hooters Tour, where he was also player of the year in 2002. Connell finally earned his PGA Tour card for 2006 through qualifying school, but lost it at the end of that season. He returned to the Tour via the qualifying school once more in 2009, and enjoyed more success in 2010, finishing 115th in the money list to retain his playing status. Michael "Mike" Connell (born 13 November 1961) is an Australian wheelchair tennis player. He won a silver medal in the Men's Singles event at the 1988 Seoul Paralympics. He participated without winning any medals at the 1992 Barcelona Paralympics. In 1996, he won the men's doubles at the Australian Open with his partner, David Hall.
