Michaelo Francis “Mika” Masoe Fao (born 11 November 1963) is an American Samoan boxer. Mika like his brother Maselino competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics, Mika entered the light-heavyweight division and after receiving a bye in the first round, he faced American Andrew Maynard and due to being dominated in the second round the referee stopped the contest in favour of Maynard who went on to win the gold medal. Four years later at the 1992 Summer Olympics he entered the same weight and again he received a bye in the first round, in the second round he fought Stephen Wilson from Great Britain Great Britain is an island in the North Atlantic Ocean off the northwest coast of continental Europe. Maselino Francis Masoe Fao (born June 6, 1966 in Apia, Western Samoa) is a retired Samoan boxer who represented American Samoa at three Olympics starting with the 1988 Summer Olympics. As a professional, Masoe made history becoming the first Samoan boxer to win a major world title, defeating Kenyan born Evans Ashira on May 1, 2004 for the regular WBA world middleweight crown via second round Technical Knockout. He is the brother of rugby player Chris Masoe. Another brother, Mika, also represented American Samoa in boxing at the 1988 and 1992 Olympics. Andrew Maynard (boxer)
Andrew Maynard (born April 8, 1964) is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1989 to 2000. As an amateur boxer, he won the Gold Medal in the Light Heavyweight division at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. Military service Andrew Maynard, a 1982 graduate of Suitland High School in Prince George’s County, Maryland, joined the National Guard in 1985 after having competed in a limited number of amateur boxing contests in the year prior. Maynard underwent his basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Encouraged to join by his wife, Susan, he enlisted in the United States Army in the winter of 1986 where he engaged in boxing while assigned to be a cook stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. Maynard was later reassigned to special duty with the Fort Carson boxing team after receiving the approval of his company commander to pursue his goal of competing in the 1988 Summer Olympics.
