Micheline Beauchemin
Micheline Beauchemin, (24 October 1929 – 29 September 2009) was a Canadian textile artist and weaver. Education Beauchemin was born in Longueuil, Quebec. She studied at the Montréal’s École des Beaux-Arts and the École des Beaux-Arts and Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris, France. In 1953, she held the first exhibit of her stained glass work in Chartres, France. A few years later, in 1955, she exhibited her first tapestries at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Chartres. Micheline Beauchemin returned to Canada in 1957. Artistic career While best known for her monumental tapestries and theatre curtains, she also worked with embroidery, stained glass, costumes and paintings. Some of Beauchemin's most famous work in Canada include the acrylic curtain that she made for the Grande Salle of the Théâtre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts in Montréal (1963-1967) and the stage curtain of the National Arts Centre in Ottawa (1966-1969). Micheline Bernardini (born 1 December 1927) is a French former nude dancer at the Casino de Paris who agreed to model, on 5 July 1946, Louis Réard's two-piece swimsuit, which he called the bikini, named four days after the first test of an American nuclear weapon at the Bikini Atoll. Réard's bikini Designer Louis Réard could not find a runway model willing to showcase his revealing design for a two-piece swimsuit. Risqué for its time, it exposed the wearer's navel and much of her buttocks. He hired Bernardini, an 18-year-old nude dancer from the Casino de Paris, as his model. He introduced his design, a two-piece swimsuit with a g-string back made out of of cloth with newspaper type pattern, which he called a bikini, at a press conference at the Piscine Molitor, a popular public pool in Paris in July 1946. Micheline Anne-Marie Calmy-Rey (born 8 July 1945) is a Swiss politician who served as a Member of the Swiss Federal Council from 2003 to 2011. A member of the Social Democratic Party (SP/PS), she was the head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs during her tenure as a Federal Councillor.
