Michael O'Sullivan (hurler)
Michael O'Sullivan (born 15 August 1990) is an Irish hurler who played as a full-forward for the Cork senior team. Born in Minane Bridge, County Cork, O'Sullivan first played competitive hurling in his younger days and at school. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of nineteen when he first linked up with the Cork under-21 team, before later lining out with the intermediate side. He joined the senior panel for the 2012 National Hurling League. O'Sullivan currently plays in the United States. On 3 April 2014 it was announced that O'Sullivan had been dropped from Cork's championship panel. Tracton GAA
Tracton GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the parish of Tracton in Cork, Republic of Ireland. The club is a member of the Carrigdhoun division of Cork GAA. The club fields teams in both Gaelic football and hurling, though it has won most success in hurling. The club's pitch is in the village of Minane Bridge. History The club was founded in 1888, only 4 years after the foundation of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The pitch located at Ahane in Minane Bridge has been Tracton's permanent home since 1973. Dressing rooms were erected and a clubhouse consisting of a concert hall and meeting rooms was completed in 1978. Further developments included the development of a new pitch to the west of the clubhouse in 2001, development of a ball alley in 2005 and the laying of a sand-based pitch in 2010. All-Ireland Intermediate Hurling Championship
The GAA Hurling Intermediate All-Ireland Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Intermediate Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). Effectively contested by the second string teams of the top inter-county hurling sides in Ireland, the tournament has taken place every year since 1997—having originally been run between 1961 and 1973. The final, currently held in July, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during the early summer, and the results determine which team receives the Michael Cusack Cup. The All-Ireland Championship has always been played on a straight knockout basis whereby once a team loses they are eliminated from the championship, however, the qualification procedures for the championship have changed several times throughout its history. Tracton Hurlers
Tracton () is a civil parish in southeast County Cork in Ireland. Lying roughly 7 kilometres south of Carrigaline, it lies within the Dáil constituency of Cork South-Central. The area is named after Tracton Abbey, a Cistercian monastery that was in the area in medieval times. Munster Intermediate Hurling Championship
The Munster Hurling Intermediate Championship is an annual hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1961 for the strong hurling teams in the province of Munster in Ireland. In some cases the teams consist of players who are not on the senior squads for their county (thus in effect, they are a second team), or in others of players who are from junior or intermediate clubs. The competition was established to prevent the stronger counties from dominating the Munster Junior Hurling Championship. The series of games are played during the summer months with the Munster final currently being played in July. The prize for the winning team is the Sweet Afton Cup. The championship has always been played on a straight knockout basis whereby once a team loses they are eliminated from the series. 2014 All-Ireland Intermediate Hurling Championship
The 2014 All-Ireland Intermediate Hurling Championship was the 31st staging of the All-Ireland hurling championship for players in the intermediate grade since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1961. The championship began on 25 May 2014 and ended on 9 August 2014. Tipperary were the defending champions, however, they were defeated in the provincial decider. Cork won the title after defeating Wexford by 2-18 to 2-12 in the All-Ireland final. The 2012 National Hurling League commenced in February 2012. 34 GAA county hurling teams: 32 from Ireland (including Fingal but not Cavan), London and Warwickshire, contested it. On 6 May Kilkenny defeated Cork in the final to win their 15th NHL title, moving them to second place in the all-time roll of honour, behind Tipperary who have won 19 Leagues. Format The 2012 format was originally to consist of five divisions: Divisions 1 and 2 having eight teams in each, Division 3A six, Division 3B seven, and six teams in Division 4. However, this was controversially altered to a system of six divisions, with six teams in divisions 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B and 3A, and four in division 3B. This meant that many counties were effectively relegated to a lower division. Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points.
