Michael O'Brien (Ohio Politician)
Michael J. O'Brien (born June 18, 1955) is the Representative of the 64th district of the Ohio House of Representatives. O'Brien is a lifelong resident of the Mahoning Valley and graduate from John F. Kennedy High School as well as Youngstown State University. O'Brien served on Warren City Council from 1983 to 1993 before being elected as a Trumbull County Commissioner in 1994. He served as a commissioner for ten years before being elected Mayor of Warren in 2005, serving until 2012. O'Brien announced in early 2014 that he would seek a seat in the Ohio House of Representatives to replace Tom Letson who was term-limited. He would win a three-way primary race with 60% of the vote for the Democratic nomination. He faced former Republican state Representative Randy Law in the general election, in what became a very tight race. He defeated Law 49%-44% to take the seat. Ohio House Of Representatives
The Ohio House of Representatives is the lower house of the Ohio General Assembly, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Ohio; the other house of the bicameral legislature being the Ohio Senate. The House of Representatives first met in Chillicothe on March 3, 1803, under the later superseded state constitution of that year. In 1816, the capital was moved to Columbus, where it is located today. Members are limited to four successive two-year elected terms (terms are considered successive if they are separated by less than four years). Time served by appointment to fill out another representative's uncompleted term does not count against the term limit. There are 99 members in the house, elected from single-member districts. Ashtabula County, Ohio
Ashtabula County ( ) is the northeasternmost county in the U.S. state of Ohio. As of the 2020 census, the population was 97,574. The county seat is Jefferson. The county was created in 1808 and later organized in 1811. The name Ashtabula derives from the Lenape language phrase ''ashte-pihële'', which translates to 'always enough (fish) to go around, to be given away' and is a contraction of ''apchi'' ('always') + ''tepi'' ('enough') + ''hële'' (verb of motion). Tom Letson
Tom Letson (born September 29, 1952 in Columbus, Ohio) is a former Democratic member of the Ohio House of Representatives, representing the 64th District from 2007 to 2014. Life and career Letson was born in Columbus, but shortly after his birth the family moved back to the Warren, Ohio area. He attended Champion Local Schools, graduating in 1970 and then attended St. Bonaventure University, graduating from Kent State University in 1983 with a BA. Tom enrolled in the University of Akron School of Law and received his JD in 1988. At the same time, Letson served a machinist apprenticeship, becoming a Journeyman while working at Copperweld Steel Corp. After being sworn into the legal profession by his former employer, Judge Robert A. Nader, Tom joined the law firm founded by his father and uncle, Letson, Griffith, Woodall & Lavelle.
