Michael Mason (high Jumper)
Michael Robert Christopher Mason (born 30 September 1986) is a Canadian high jumper. The 2004 World Junior champion, he has represented Canada at the 2008 Summer Olympics, 2008 IAAF World Indoor Championships, 2010 Commonwealth Games, 2012 Summer Olympics, 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships and the 2015 Pan American Games. His personal best for the event is 2.33 metres. Career He won the IAAF World Junior Championships gold medal in 2004. From Nanoose Bay, British Columbia, Mason is only the second Canadian to win a World Junior Championship gold medal, following Mark Boswell who won in 1996. Mason holds a number of provincial records previously held by retired Canadian high jumper and 1976 Olympic Silver Medallist Greg Joy, including the BC high school, junior and senior records. New Westminster (colloquially known as New West) is a city in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia, Canada, and a member municipality of the Metro Vancouver Regional District. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) established in 1940, is a college athletics association for colleges and universities in North America. Most colleges and universities in the NAIA offer athletic scholarships to its student athletes. For the 2021–22 season, it has 252 member institutions, of which two are in British Columbia, one in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the rest in the conterminous United States, with over 77,000 student-athletes participating. Greg Joy
Gregory Andrew Joy (born April 23, 1956) is an American-born Canadian high jumper who stood 6' 4" tall and weighed 157 lbs while competing from 1973 to 1982 for Canada. Biography Born in the U.S. to Canadian parents, Joy lived in Vancouver, British Columbia, from age 9 to 17. He won the silver medal in the high jump at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, being the highest medal earned by Canada, which became the first host country in summer Olympics history not to produce at least one gold medal winner and later was selected to carry Canada's flag at the closing ceremonies. For his achievement, Joy was voted the winner of the Lionel Conacher Award as Canada's top male athlete of 1976 and the Norton Crowe Award as Canada's top male amateur athlete of the year. Mark Boswell (athlete)
Mark Boswell (born July 28, 1977) is a Canadian high jumper, who won a total number of six national titles in the men's high jump event. Boswell was born in Mandeville, Jamaica and grew up in Brampton, Ontario. Boswell attended the University of Texas at Austin. In 2006, he won gold at the Commonwealth games held in Melbourne, Australia. His other notable achievements in international competition include 7th place at the 2004 Summer Olympics, 6th place at the 2000 Summer Olympics, a silver medal at the 1999 World Championships in Seville, Spain and a bronze at the 2003 World Championships in Saint-Denis, France France (), officially the French Republic ( ), is a country primarily located in Western Europe. 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships
The 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics was the fifteenth edition of the international indoor track and field competition, organised by the IAAF. The event was held between 7–9 March 2014 at the Ergo Arena in Sopot, Poland. Preparation Host bidding The IAAF announced on 1 September 2011 that it had received bids from Poland and Croatia to host the championships. Later Zagreb, Croatia withdrew due to lack of funding. On 11 November 2011 at a Council meeting in Monaco, the IAAF announced that Sopot, as the only remaining bidder, would host the championships.
