Michael Jackson (rugby League)
Michael Jackson (born 11 October 1969) is a former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s. He played at representative level for Great Britain, and at club level for Hunslet, Wakefield Trinity, Halifax and Sheffield Eagles, as a or . Career Jackson started his professional career with Hunslet before being signed by Wakefield Trinity in 1991 for a fee of £60,000. In July 1993, Jackson signed a two-year contract with Halifax. Jackson was signed by Sheffield Eagles in January 1998 for a fee of £28,000. He appeared as a substitute in Sheffield Eagles' 17–8 victory over Wigan Warriors in the 1998 Challenge Cup Final during Super League III at Wembley Stadium, London on Saturday 2 May 1998. Hunslet () is an inner-city area in south Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It is southeast of the city centre and has an industrial past. It is situated in the Hunslet and Riverside ward of Leeds City Council and Leeds Central parliamentary constituency. The population of the previous City and Hunslet council ward at the 2011 census was 33,705. Many engineering companies were based in Hunslet, including John Fowler & Co. manufacturers of traction engines and steam rollers, the Hunslet Engine Company builders of locomotives (including those used during the construction of the Channel Tunnel), Kitson & Co., Manning Wardle and Hudswell Clarke. The 2000 Northern Ford Premiership season was the second tier of British rugby league during the 2000 season. The competition featured eighteen teams, with Dewsbury Rams finishing as league leaders and winning the Grand Final. Championship The league was won by the Dewsbury Rams. The Dewsbury Rams also reached the Grand Final and defeated Leigh Centurions, with Leigh Centurions' Mick Higham winning the Tom Bergin Trophy. The Sheffield Eagles are a professional rugby league club that play in the Betfred Championship. The club play their home games at the Olympic Legacy Park (OLP) on the former site of Don Valley Stadium, their former ground. The 1992 Great Britain Lions tour of Australasia was a tour by the Great Britain national rugby league team, nicknamed the 'Lions', of Papua New Guinea, Australia and New Zealand which took place between May and July 1992. The tour was the last of such length undertaken by the Great Britain team, and included a test match against Papua New Guinea, a three-test series against Australia for The Ashes, and a two-test series against New Zealand for the Baskerville Shield, all interspersed with matches against local club and representative teams. In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps. The practice was first approved on 10 May 1886 for association football after a proposal made by N.
