Mike Gray (born February 11, 1960) is a former award-winning and all-star Canadian Football League defensive tackle and Grey Cup champion. After playing his college football at the University of Oregon Gray started his pro career with the British Columbia Lions in 1985. He played 16 games and had 13 sacks, good for an all-star nod and the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie Award. After 8 sacks in 1986, the Lions lost Gray to the Ottawa Rough Riders in the equalization draft. Ottawa released him and he began a 7-year stay with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, playing 107 regular season games and being named an Eastern all-star in 1989. Perhaps Gray's most famous and dramatic play came in the classic 76th Grey Cup game. Facing his old team, the B.C. Michael Gray (born 3 August 1974) is an English former professional footballer who played as a left-back or left winger for 18 years. He is mostly remembered for his 12-year stay with his hometown club Sunderland, where he made 363 league appearances between 1992 and 2004. While with Sunderland, he spent a brief loan spell with Scottish side Celtic. In 2004, he moved to Blackburn Rovers and later had spells with Leeds United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sheffield Wednesday. In 1999, Gray earned three caps for England. Biography Gray grew up on Merseyside, attended Birkenhead School, and read History and English Literature at the University of York. He subsequently lived and worked in North Devon, Birmingham, West Malvern, London and North Yorkshire. He is married to the food writer Sarah Beattie. In 2008, they moved to South-West France. Lieutenant General Sir Michael Stuart Gray, (3 May 1932 – 13 March 2011) was a senior British Army officer. He served as General Officer Commanding South East District from 1985 to 1988, Colonel Commandant of the Parachute Regiment from 1990 to 1993, and Lieutenant of the Tower of London from 1995 to 1998. Early life and family Gray's father, Lieutenant Frank Gray, was killed in action while serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve in 1940. He was educated at Beverley Grammar School, Christ's Hospital, Horsham and at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. In 1958 Gray married Juliette Noon, with whom he was to have two sons and one daughter. Military career Gray enlisted in the Royal Artillery in 1950.
