Michael Freeman (surgeon)
Professor Michael Alexander Reykers Freeman FRCS (1931 –14 September 2017), also known as Mike, was a British orthopaedic surgeon, responsible for developing several new techniques for joint rebuilding or replacement. Freeman underwent his medical training at the London Hospital. In 1968 he became Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the London Hospital where he remained until his retirement in 1996, when he became an Honorary Consultant at the Royal Hospitals NHS Trust. He was also a research fellow at Imperial College, from 1968 until 1979. He jointly founded, with Alan Swanson, the Biomechanics Unit at Imperial College London. Michael Freeman (born 1945) is a British author, photographer and journalist. In 1978, ''Athens'', the first book giving him title-credit as a photographer, was published in a Time-Life series called ''The World’s Great Cities''. This was followed by two other books, "Guardians of the North-West Frontier: The Pathans" in 1982 and "Wayfarers of the Thai Forest: The Akha" in 1982, both in the subsequent Time-Life series "Peoples of the Wild". Freeman has had a long working relationship with the Smithsonian magazine, and has photographed 40 stories between 1978 and 2008. One of his main specialisations has been Asian culture, architecture and archaeology, and he has photographed and written many books on these, including five on Angkor. The first of these, "Angkor: The Hidden Glories" was used in filming the 1992 non-verbal film Baraka, and Freeman is one of the eight cast in the accompanying 2008 documentary "Baraka: A Closer Look". Mike Freeman is an American jazz vibraphonist and composer from Omaha, Nebraska based in New York City's Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan since 1981. Early life and education Freeman started learning drums at age six and began playing professionally at age thirteen. At twelve, he began playing the vibraphone, and by fifteen, he was a percussionist for the Omaha Symphony Orchestra under conductor Thomas Briccetti. During his last year of high school, he began traveling to Chicago to study with renowned percussionist and veteran studio musician Bobby Christian. He graduated from DePaul University with a Bachelor of Music composition in 1981. In New York, he studied with composer and arranger Hale Rood. Michael Roy Freeman (born 9 December 1960) is a New Zealand chess player. He was NZ Correspondence Champion in 1979/80 and 1983/84, and earned a NZ Correspondence Chess Master title. In 1995 he gained an International Correspondence Master title (2450 level) and in 2003 he won the International Correspondence Chess Federation (ICCF) 50th anniversary IM-D event and gained a Senior International Master title. Over the board Freeman has represented NZ in chess at the 1996 Chess Olympiad and the 1983, 1993 and 1995 Asian Teams events and was NZ Team Captain for four Chess Chess Olympiad, Olympiads (1994, 1996, 1998, 2000) and a member of the Fédération Internationale des Échecs, FIDE Executive Board from 1998 to 2002. Michael Barrett Freeman (born August 4, 1987) is an American former professional baseball utility player. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Indians, and Cincinnati Reds. Career Amateur Freeman attended Edgewater High School in Orlando, Florida. Out of high school he was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 41st round of the 2006 Major League Baseball draft.
