Michael Patrick Donnelly was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician, who was a member of Seanad Éireann from 1977 to 1981. He was elected to the Seanad by the Administrative Panel on 7 December 1977, in a by-election caused by the death of Jack Garrett. An accountant Donnelly was first elected to Dublin City Council in 1985 and remained a member until he lost his seat in 2009 Dublin City Council election, 2009. From 1990 to 1991 he held the office of Lord Mayor of Dublin. His son, Daniel, was an unsuccessful Fianna Fáil candidate in the 2014 local elections. He is a descendant of Eamon Donnelly a chief organiser for Sinn Féin and later Fianna Fáil and subsequently a Teachta Dála (TD) for Laois–Offaly (Dáil constituency), Leix-Offaly from 1933 to 1937. Michael W. Donnelly (February 3, 1959 – June 30, 2005) was a United States Air Force fighter pilot and activist. Medically retired in 1996 following a diagnosis of Lou Gehrig's disease, he became a leading activist for sufferers of Gulf War syndrome. Early life and career A native of Connecticut, Donnelly attended East Catholic High School and graduated from Fairfield University in 1981. Donnelly joined the United States Air Force and became a fighter pilot, primarily flying the A-10 "Warthog" and F-16. He flew 44 combat missions during Operation Desert Storm as a member of the 10th Tactical Fighter Squadron. After the Gulf War he became Chief of Standardization and Evaluation with the 80th Flying Training Wing and trained NATO pilots. Activism Donnelly quickly gained national recognition as a veteran's advocate, including appearing in a feature article in ''People Magazine''. Michael Donnelly is a fictional character from the American soap opera '' Santa Barbara''. He was portrayed by American actor Frank Runyeon from May 26, 1988 to October 14, 1991. Michael "Micky" Donnelly (1952 – 13 September 2019) was a Northern Irish painter, sculptor and installation artist. Early life Donnelly was born in Belfast in 1952. He attended St Mary's Christian Brothers' Grammar School, Belfast and initially studied maths, computer science and astronomy at Queen's University Belfast; he dropped out and became active in the People's Democracy movement, working as a social worker in the Divis Flats. He later studied for a BA and MA in fine art at University of Ulster, Belfast in 1976–81. Career In 1985 he won the Arts Council of Northern Ireland Scholarship at the British School at Rome.
