Mexico At The 2008 Summer Olympics
Mexico competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. The country sent 85 competitors (43 men and 42 women) and participated in 23 sports. Mexico's flag-bearer at the opening ceremony was diver Paola Espinosa. Mexican athletes won two gold medals at the games for the first time since the 1984 Olympics. Medalists Archery Mexico sent archers, two men and two women, to the Olympics for the eighth time, and had yet to win an Olympic medal in the sport. Two men received qualifying places in archery, after Luis Velez earned a qualifying spot during the 2007 World Outdoor Target Championships and Juan Serrano added another spot at the Pan American championships. Mexican Olympic Committee
The Mexican Olympic Committee () (COM) is the organization that represents Mexico, Mexican athletes in the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Pan American Games and the Central American and Caribbean Games. Archery At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's Individual
The men's individual archery event at the 2008 Summer Olympics was part of the archery programme and took place at the Olympic Green Archery Field. Ranking Round was scheduled for 9 August. First and second elimination rounds took place on 13 August, and eights, quarterfinal, semifinals and medals matches were staged on 15 August. All archery was done at a range of 70 metres, with targets 1.22 metres in diameter. Marco Galiazzo was at Beijing to defend his Olympic Gold Medal won on Athens but failed to qualify for the finals after being defeated in the Round of 32. Japanese Hiroshi Yamamoto, silver at the last Games, and Australian Tim Cuddihy did not participate at the Chinese Games. 64 archers from 37 countries qualified for the event at the Beijing Olympics. Kwon Un-Sil
Kwon Un-sil (born September 17, 1983 in Hamhung, South Hamgyong) is an athlete from North Korea who competes in archery. 2008 Summer Olympics At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing Kwon finished her ranking round with a total of 656 points. This gave her the 5th seed for the final competition bracket in which she faced Najmeh Abtin in the first round, beating the archer from Iran with 106–96. In the second round she was too strong for Pranitha Vardhineni with 106-99 and via Aida Román (105-100) she achieved her place in the quarter final. There she eliminated another Mexican, Mariana Avitia with 105-99 to go on to the semi final. In the semi final Kwon was unable to beat first seed Park Sung-hyun who won the match 109–106. Khatuna Narimanidze
Khatuna Narimanidze ( ka, ხათუნა ნარიმანიძე; born 2 February 1974) is an athlete from Georgia. She competes in archery. 2004 Summer Olympics Narimanidze represented Georgia at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She placed 41st in the women's individual ranking round with a 72-arrow score of 620. In the first round of elimination, she faced 24th-ranked Almudena Gallardo of Spain. Narimanidze lost 148-132 in the 18-arrow match, placing 51st overall in women's individual archery. 2008 Summer Olympics At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing Narimanidze finished her ranking round with a total of 663 points. Mariana Avitia
Mariana Avitia Martínez (born September 18, 1993) is a Mexican recurve archer. She was the first Mexican to win an Olympic medal in archery after taking bronze in the women's individual event at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She is also the youngest Mexican athlete to compete in two Olympic Games, contesting both the 2008 Summer Olympics and 2010 Summer Youth Olympics by the age of seventeen. Avitia has represented Mexico at international archery events since 2007. In addition to her Olympic medal she has also achieved medals at the 2017 World Archery Championships and the 2011 and 2019 Pan American Games. Career Avitia was first introduced to archery at age seven. Bair Badënov
Bair Badënov (russian: Баи́р Доржи́евич Бадёнов, ''Baír Dorzhíyevich Badyónov'', ; born June 28, 1976, in Zugalay, now Zabaykalsky Krai) is a Russian archer. Park Kyung-mo (; born August 15, 1975) is an archer from South Korea. He has won gold medals at the three major World Archery Federation events ( Olympics, World Archery Championships and World Cup finals) and is a former world number one. He is married to archer Park Sung-hyun. 2004 Summer Olympics Park competed for Korea at the 2004 Summer Olympics in men's individual archery. He won his first three elimination matches, advancing to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Park faced Tim Cuddihy of Australia, losing to the eventual bronze medalist 112-111 in the 12-arrow match. Park placed 5th overall and holds the Olympic record for an 18-arrow match at 70 meters. He scored 173 points out of the potential 180 to set the record. Victor Steven "Vic" Wunderle (born March 4, 1976 in Lincoln, Illinois) is an archer from the United States. Personal Wunderle was raised in Mason City, Illinois and is the son of the famous archery coach Terry Wunderle. His passion for archery started at the age five. He competed in many competitions and received many honors throughout his childhood. After graduating from Illini Central High School in 1994, he attended Texas A&M University, where he graduated in 2002 with a degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences. 2000 Summer Olympics Wunderle won the silver medal in archery at the 2000 Summer Olympics.
