Metró (Hungarian Band)
Metró was a Hungarian rock band in the 1960s and early 1970s. Despite the Communist regime's condemnation of rock music, Metró found success and was able to release an album and appear on some television shows, as were their contemporaries Illés and Omega. The band broke up due to the difficulty of promoting their music under Communism. Some members of Metró later formed the long-running hard rock bands Taurus and Locomotiv GT. Illés (band)
Illés ( Hungarian name: ''Illés együttes'' = ''Illés Ensemble'') was a Hungarian rock/beat band (1960–1973), and was one of the biggest groups of the 1960s and early 1970s rock boom in Hungary. The band is often compared to the Beatles as regards the time period of its activity, its artistic and cultural influence and continuing popularity. Name The band's name was originally taken from the family name of Lajos Illés, one of the members. Later however, the band chose as its logo a chariot in the form of musical notes, drawn by two horses, riding over the name "Illés" and the sun. This logo deliberately references the chariot of the prophet Elijah (Illés in Hungarian) in the Old Testament, in which he was said to have been taken to Heaven. Omega (band)
Omega was a Hungarian rock band formed in 1962, which has been described as the most successful Hungarian rock band in history. They have released more than 20 albums both in Hungarian and English. After several early personnel changes, their classic lineup came together in 1971 and was intact for more than forty years. Singer János Kóbor was with the band continuously from 1962 to his death in 2021; keyboardist/singer László Benkő was present from 1962 until his death in 2020; while guitarist György Molnár and drummer Ferenc Debreczeni joined in 1967 and 1971 respectively. Bassist Tamás Mihály was a member of the band from 1967 to 2017. They have won several prestigious awards for their contributions to Hungarian culture. Hard Rock
Hard rock or heavy rock is a loosely defined subgenre of rock music typified by aggressive vocals and distorted electric guitars. Hard rock began in the mid-1960s with the garage, psychedelic and blues rock movements. Some of the earliest hard rock music was produced by the Kinks, the Who, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Cream, Vanilla Fudge, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. In the late 1960s, bands such as Blue Cheer, the Jeff Beck Group, Iron Butterfly, Led Zeppelin, Golden Earring, Steppenwolf and Deep Purple also produced hard rock. Locomotiv GT
Locomotiv GT (often abbreviated LGT, and sometimes using the nickname Loksi) was a Hungarian rock band formed in 1971. Starting out as a progressive rock band, they later experimented with many other styles including jazz, funk, and pop. During their heyday they were one of Hungary's most popular rock bands. The band broke up in 2016 after the death of longtime singer/bassist Tamás Somló. History Early years The band was formed in April 1971 by members of previously successful Hungarian rock bands. A poll in ''Hungarian Youth'' magazine listing the nation's favorite rock musicians inspired several of the winners to form a new band together. Zorán Sztevanovity
Zorán Sztevanovity ( sr-cyr, Зоран Стевановић) (born 4 March 1942) is a Serbian guitarist, singer and composer in Hungary. Life and career Zoran Stevanović ( sr-cyr, Зоран Стевановић) was born in Belgrade, Kingdom of Yugoslavia (now Serbia), on 4 March 1942 and moved to Hungary in 1948 with his parents who were on a diplomatic mission, after two years in Prague. In 1960, with his brother Dušan and their friends he founded an amateur band called Zenith, which changed its name to Metro in 1961, when they began to play in the Metró Klub, the club of the underground building company. Zorán often took part in talent shows and pop festivals in the sixties with his band or solo and won in 1963 with a Gershwin song. Enthused by success, he discontinued his studies at Budapest University of Technology (he read to be an electronic engineer) and became a professional musician.
