Metro Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The Metro Conference men's basketball tournament was the conference championship tournament in men's basketball for the Metro Conference. The tournament was held annually between 1976 and 1996, when the Metro Conference was absorbed into Conference USA in 1996. The winner of the tournament was guaranteed a spot in the NCAA basketball tournament each year. In United States colleges, top-tier basketball is governed by collegiate athletic bodies including National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA). 1976 Metro Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The 1976 Metro Conference men's basketball tournament was held March 4–6 at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Kentucky. This was the first edition of the tournament. Cincinnati defeated in the championship game, 103–95, to win their first Metro men's basketball tournament. The Bearcats, in turn, received a bid to the 1976 NCAA Tournament. They were joined by fellow Metro member, and tournament runner-up, Memphis State, who earned an at-large bid. Format All six of the conference's members participated in the tournament field. Riverfront Coliseum
Heritage Bank Center is an indoor arena located in downtown Cincinnati, next to the Great American Ball Park. It was completed in September 1975 and named Riverfront Coliseum because of its placement next to Riverfront Stadium. In 1997, the facility became known as The Crown, and in 1999, it changed its name again to Firstar Center after Firstar Bank assumed naming rights. In 2002, following Firstar's merger with U.S. Bank, the arena took on the name U.S. Bank Arena and kept that name until 2019. Richard Wilson (born February 7, 1956) is a retired American basketball player. He played for the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1978 to 1980. College career Wilson graduated from Atherton High School in Louisville, Kentucky. He played collegiately for the University of Louisville from 1974 to 1978. As a freshman, Wilson was a reserve on the Cardinals' 1975 Final Four team. Wilson then entered the starting lineup for the rest of his Louisville career. As a sophomore, he averaged 14.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game and led the Cardinals to the 1976 National Invitation Tournament. The Florida State Seminoles men's basketball team represents Florida State University (variously Florida State or FSU) in the intercollegiate sport of basketball. The Cincinnati Bearcats men's basketball program represents the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. Gary Yoder
Gary Yoder (born July 4, 1955) is an American former basketball player. He is best known for his collegiate career at the University of Cincinnati, although he played for three different colleges during his career. High school career A standout four-year player at Westview High School in LaGrange County, Indiana, Yoder led the Warriors to the 1973 sectional championship and regional final against Fort Wayne Northrop High School. He scored school records of 683 points on the season and 51 points in a single game. He also broke the LaGrange County scoring record by accumulating 1,711 points in his career. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets men's basketball team represents the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in NCAA Division I basketball. The team plays its home games in McCamish Pavilion on the school's Atlanta campus and is currently coached by Josh Pastner.
