Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player Of The Year
The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year is an award given to the men's basketball player in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) voted as the most outstanding player. The award was first presented following the 1981–82 season, the first MAAC season, through voting by the league's head coaches. The award was first given to William Brown of Saint Peter's after Brown averaged 17.0 ppg, while leading the Peacocks to the NIT. Lionel Simmons of La Salle won the award a league record three times in his career. Simmons, along with winning his third MAAC Player of the Year award, was also the consensus national player of the year in 1990. As of 2024, three players have won the award twice in their career: Steve Burtt of Iona, Luis Flores of Manhattan and Justin Robinson of Monmouth. Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference
The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC, ) is a collegiate List of NCAA conferences, athletic conference affiliated with NCAA Division I. Its current 13 full members are located in five Northeastern states: Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York (state), New York. Members are all relatively small private institutions, a majority Catholic university, Catholic or formerly Catholic, with the only exceptions being two secular institutions: Rider University and Quinnipiac University. The MAAC currently sponsors 25 sports and has 17 associate member institutions. Kahlil Dukes (born May 17, 1995) is an American professional basketball player for Atomerőmű SE of the Nemzeti Bajnokság I/A. He played college basketball for the University of Southern California (USC) and Niagara University and was named the 2018 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Year. College career A point guard and Hartford, Connecticut native, Dukes attended Capital Prep Magnet School and scored 2,238 points for his high school career. He was recruited to USC by coach Kevin O'Neill, but O'Neill was fired prior to Dukes arriving to campus. Kenny Hasbrouck (born Kenneth Hasbrouck on August 14, 1986) is an American professional basketball player for Dorados de Chihuahua of the Mexican LNBP. He formerly played collegiately for Siena, who retired his jersey and later inducted him into their Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2014. College After graduating from the Cardinal Gibbons (Baltimore, Maryland), Hasbrouck played a post-graduate season with Maine Central Institute. Jason Carlton Thompson (born July 21, 1986) is an American former professional basketball player and current assistant coach for the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the NBA G League. He was a starting center playing college basketball for the Rider Broncs from 2004 to 2008, and was drafted in the first round of the 2008 NBA draft by the Sacramento Kings. Jared Ahern Jordan (born October 14, 1984) is an American former professional basketball player for various teams in Basketball Bundesliga (BBL). He last played for CSU Sibiu of the Liga Națională in Romania during the 2019–20 season. Tariq Kinte Kirksay (born September 7, 1979) is a French American former professional basketball player. He was born in the Bronx, New York, where he grew up. (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 – February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. The Naismith College Player of the Year is "the most prestigious national award presented annually to the men's and women's college basketball players of the year," as chosen by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Board of Selectors. It is named in honor of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball. History and selection First awarded exclusively to male players in 1969, the award was expanded to include female players in 1983. The UPI College Basketball Player of the Year was an annual basketball award given to the best men's basketball player in NCAA Division I competition. The award was first given following the 1954–55 season and was discontinued following the 1995–96 season. The Merrimack Warriors men's basketball team represents Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts, United States.
