Meteoritical Society's Service Award
This award honors members of the Meteoritical Society who have advanced the goals of the Society to promote research and education in meteoritics and planetary science in ways other than by conducting scientific research. Examples of activities that could be honored by the award include, but are not limited to, education and public outreach, service to the Society and the broader scientific community, and acquisition, classification and curation of new samples for research. This award may be given annually, and should be given at least every other year. Winners will be granted lifetime membership in the Meteoritical Society. Meteoritical Society
The Meteoritical Society is a non-profit scholarly organization founded in 1933 to promote research and education in planetary science with emphasis on studies of meteorites and other extraterrestrial materials that further our understanding of the origin and history of the Solar System. Members The membership of the society comprises over 1,000 scientists and amateur enthusiasts from over 52 countries who are interested in a wide range of planetary science topics. Members interests include meteorites, cosmic dust, asteroids and comets, natural satellites, planets, impact events, and the origins of the Solar System. Christian Koeberl
Christian Köberl (born February 18, 1959 in Vienna) is a professor of impact research and planetary geology at the University of Vienna, Austria. From June 2010 to May 2020 he was director general of the Natural History Museum in Vienna. He is best known for his research on meteorite impact craters. Biography and career Born in Vienna, Austria, in 1959, Köberl attended a technical high school specializing in chemistry, and from 1978 studied chemistry and physics at the Technical University of Vienna, as well as astronomy at the University of Vienna. In 1983, he completed his PhD studies at the University of Graz, Austria, with a dissertation in cosmochemistry. In 1985 he joined the faculty of the newly founded Institute of Geochemistry at the University of Vienna, becoming an assistant professor. Linda Martel
Linda Martel (21 August 1956 – 20 October 1961) was known during her brief life in the Channel Islands as a healer. After her death, cures continued to be reported and books discuss the phenomena. Life Martel was born in Saint Peter Port in 1956. Her parents were Eileen Ethel (born Allchin) and John Royston (Roy) Martel and she was the fifth of their six children. Martel was not well. She was born with paralysed legs, spina bifida, and hydrocephalus. Her doctor estimated that she might live for a year. After about ten days she was transferred to St Peter Port Hospital where she was baptised. Her head was getting larger and her imminent death was mistakenly predicted. Ralph Harvey (August 9, 1901 – November 7, 1991) was an American politician who served six terms as a U.S. Representative from Indiana from 1947 to 1959, then again for three more terms from 1961 to 1966. Biography Born on a farm near Mount Summit, Indiana, Harvey attended the public schools. He graduated from Purdue University, Lafayette, Indiana, 1923. He was an agricultural instructor and a farmer. Additionally, he served as county councilman from 1932 to 1942 and as a member of the Indiana House of Representatives from 1942 to 1947.
