Messingham
Messingham is a village and civil parish in North Lincolnshire, England. The village is situated on the A159, south from the centre of Scunthorpe and south from the M180. West Lindsey is 1 mile to the south, as is Scotter. Messingham has a population of over 4,000 people, falling to 3,718 at the 2011 census. Community The village has a history of sheep farming. Schools serving the village are Messingham Primary School, Frederick Gough School, Queen Elizabeth's High School, Huntcliff and John Leggott College. The parischurchis dedicated to the Holy Trinity. There is also a Methodist church, on 24 July 1772. John Wesley was known to preach in Messingham, possibly at the site of the Green Tree public house. Village public houses are thHorn Inn Green Tree Inn and Crown Inn on High Street, and thBird in the Barleyon Northfield Road (A159). Richard Massingham
Richard Massingham (31 January 1898 in Sleaford, Lincolnshire – 1 April 1953 in Biddenden, Kent) was a British medical doctor who is principally known for starring in public information films made in the 1940s and early 1950s. Life After working in medicine and making amateur films, Massingham set up Public Relationship Films Ltd in 1938 when he noticed that there was no specialist agency making short educational films for the public. In the films he typically played a bumbling character who was slightly more stupid than average, and often explained the message of the film through demonstrating the risks if it was ignored. Films' topics included postal deliveries, how to cross the road, how to prevent the spread of diseases, how to swim and how to drive without causing the road to be unsafe for other users.
