Mercado Central or Mercat Central (English: ''Central Market'') is a public market located across from the Llotja de la Seda and the church of the Juanes in central Valencia, Spain. It is one of the main works of the Valencian Art Nouveau. History In 1839, the spot had been used to inaugurate an open-air marketplace called Mercat Nou. By the end of the century the city of Valencia sponsored a contest for the construction of a new roofed market. A new contest in 1910 selected the present design by Alexandre Soler March and Francesc Guàrdia Vidal, who had got his architect's degree at the ''School of Architecture of Barcelona'' and collaborated with Lluís Domènech i Montaner. Construction began in 1914 and was not fully completed until 1928 by the Valencian architect Enrique Viedma Vidal. The Central Market of Pontevedra (or Municipal Market of Pontevedra) is a covered market located in Pontevedra, Spain. It is located at the north-eastern edge of the historic centre, close to the Burgo Bridge. It overlooks the banks of the Lérez river and was inaugurated in 1948. History The medieval squares of the historic centre of Pontevedra were, since the Middle Ages, the place where different products were sold. In the Plaza de Teucro, products such as bread and milk were sold, in the Plaza de la Verdura, vegetables, fruit, chestnuts and fish, and in the Plaza de Méndez Núñez, chickens, among others. In the 1880s, the city urgently needed a covered market for greater comfort and hygiene, as shown in the municipal minutes of 5 March 1884. In 1885, the project for a covered market was approved and entrusted to the municipal architect, Alejandro Sesmero. Mercado Central De Lima
The Central Market of Lima ( es, Mercado Central de Lima) is the central market of the city of Lima, Peru. Located in the neighbourhood of Barrios Altos, next to Chinatown, it is part of the historic centre of the city. The building is made up of a basement that occupies the entire block, with a commercial perimeter ring. The basement is divided into two sectors differentiated by half a level and connected by ramps. A building rests on it. It has two truck entrance ramps to the basement. History In 1846, during the government of President Ramón Castilla, a supreme decree was issued for the construction of a food market in the city of Lima. It was decided that its location would be the same as it currently occupies: the block surrounded by Huallaga, Andahuaylas, Ucayali and Ayacucho streets.
