Mendoza Railway Station
Mendoza Station is a railway station located in the Mendoza, Argentina, city of the same name in Argentina. It was inaugurated in 1885 and originally operated by state-owned Andean Railway (then taken over by British companies such as Buenos Aires and Pacific Railway). Nowadays Mendoza is currently used by Metrotranvía Mendoza, a light rail transport system inaugurated in 2012. The station is also served by state-owned company Trenes Argentinos Cargas which runs freight trains in the region. The station operated between 1885 and 1993 when it was closed by the Government of Argentina, national government. It remained disused and abandoned until 2012 when the Metrotranvía was inaugurated. Cuyo (Argentina)
Cuyo is the wine-producing, mountainous region of central-west Argentina. Historically it comprised the provinces of San Juan, San Luis and Mendoza. The modern New Cuyo includes both Cuyo proper and the province of La Rioja. New Cuyo is a political and economic macroregion, but culturally La Rioja is part of the North-West rather than of Cuyo. Cuyo has some of the most popular tourist attractions in Argentina and the highest mountain massifs in the Andes, including Aconcagua itself, the highest peak outside Asia, and the Ischigualasto Provincial Park. The soil is arid and reddish, crossed by few rivers. Most of the rivers are fed by the thawing of snow on the peaks, and their volume of water increases considerably in spring. Ferrocarriles Argentinos (abbreviated as FA; ) was a state-owned company that managed the entire Argentine railway system for nearly 45 years. Argentine Great Western Railway
The Argentine Great Western Railway (AGWR) (in Spanish: Ferrocarril Gran Oeste Argentino) was a British-owned railway company, founded in 1887, that operated a broad gauge, , railway network in the Argentine provinces of San Luis, San Juan and Mendoza. In 1907 it was taken over on a lease by the Buenos Aires and Pacific Railway (BA&P). The AGWR was founded in 1887, and in the same year bought the 518 km line connecting Villa Mercedes in San Luis Province with Mendoza and San Juan in the rich wine-producing districts at the foot of the Andes.
