Eduardo Mendonça
Eduardo Mendonça (born August 21, 1960 in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil) is a guitarist, percussionist, singer, composer, and director of "Show Brazil!". He traces his heritage to a royal African family called "Mama Beka", meaning "Prophet of the Royal Court". He settled in Seattle, Washington in 1994 and was a member of the percussion ensemble Bakra Bata, before forming his own band and production company, Show Brazil. His group performs and offers workshops at festivals all over the Pacific Northwest, including Bumbershoot, the Northwest Folklife Festival, the Seattle International Children's Festival, and many others. Eduardo Mendonça was on hand to provide a musical welcome to Pope John Paul II when the pontiff visited Brazil in 1980. He also played for Nelson Mandela's visit to Seattle in 1999. Marcelo de Mattos Terra or simply Marcelo Mattos (born 10 February 1984 in Indiaporã, São Paulo) is a Brazilian football defensive midfielder who plays for Bangu. Jorge Mendonça (footballer, Born 1954)
Jorge Pinto Mendonça (June 6, 1954 – February 17, 2006) was a Brazilian footballer during the 1970s and 1980s, playing in a striker role. Career Born in Silva Jardim, he scored 417 goals during his career (1972–1991). With Brazilian team he played 6 official games without scoring any goals (he was Zico reserve in 1978 FIFA World Cup). He won the São Paulo State Championship in 1976 and was the top goalscorer in the same tournament in 1981 - 38 goals by Guarani. After he retired he suffered of financial, healthy and familiar problems. However, in his last years, he directed a childcare project of Guarani. Leon Ivor Mendonca (13 July 1934 – 14 June 2014) was a West Indian cricketer who played in two Test matches in 1962. Career A wicket-keeper and useful batsman, he played for British Guiana from 1958–59 to 1961–62. On his first-class debut against Barbados he opened the batting and scored 74 and 27, and in his second match, also against Barbados, he made 5 and 69. He later batted down the order. He made his Test debut against India in the Second Test at Kingston in 1961–62, when batting at number eight he made 78, his highest first-class score, adding 127 for the seventh wicket with Gary Sobers and 74 for the eighth wicket with Charlie Stayers. He lost his place to David Allan for the Third Test, returned for the Fourth, then was replaced by Allan again for the Fifth. The Fourth Test was his last first-class match. Clive Paul Mendonca (born 9 September 1968) is an English former professional footballer, who played as a striker between 1986 and 2002 notably for Grimsby Town and Charlton Athletic. Mendonca also played for Sheffield United, Doncaster Rovers and Rotherham United. Career Mendonca started his career with Sheffield United, before spells with Doncaster Rovers, Rotherham United and Sheffield United again. Mendonca then moved to Grimsby Town in 1992, initially on loan. Mendonca scored 60 goals in 166 appearances for Grimsby, and is considered to be their best striker in recent history. Mendonca moved to Charlton Athletic in the summer of 1997 and scored twenty eight times for the Addicks in the 1997–98 season, including a hat-trick against his home town team Sunderland who he'd supported as a boy, in the Division One play-off final at Wembley. António Manuel Viana Mendonça (born 9 October 1982) is an Angolan retired footballer who played as a right winger. Club career Born in Luanda, Mendonça moved to Portugal in January 2000 at only 17, signing with Varzim S.C. in the second division, and scored ten goals in 30 games in his first full season to help to Primeira Liga promotion. Stella Mendonça (born 10 August 1970) is a Mozambican operatic soprano specializing in the bel canto repertoire. In 2002 Mendonça collaborated in adapting Georges Bizet's opera Carmen for African audiences and then performed it in Mozambique. Paulo Mendonça is a Swedish funk guitarist songwriter and composer of Portuguese origin. He has released five studio albums and one live album, the first three in the 1990s as a performing artist and sold more than 250.000 copies and as a songwriter he received 8x platinum awards. Newton Ferreira de Mendonça (February 14, 1927 – November 22, 1960) was a musician, composer, and lyricist. He began as a pianist in 1950. Mendonça was born in Rio de Janeiro. In 1953 he started working with Antônio Carlos Jobim, something for which he is best known. Mendonça went on to co-compose music and lyrics for Desafinado, Meditação, and Samba de uma nota só. In 1959 he had his first heart attack, but his songs continued gaining attention.
