Aída Teresa Mencía Ripley is an academic from the Dominican Republic. She is currently Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation and UNESCO Chairholder in Intersectional Gender Studies in Education and Psychology at Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE), Universidad Iberoamericana of the Dominican Republic (UNIBE). Mécia Lopes de Haro or Mencía López de Haro (c.1215–1270) was a Castilian noblewoman, the wife successively of count Álvaro Pérez de Castro and of King Sancho II of Portugal. The subsequent annulment of her marriage by Pope Innocent IV has led to disagreement over whether she should be counted among the queens consort of Portugal. She played a central role in the Portuguese political crisis of 1245. Birth Mécia Lopes was born in Biscay, the daughter of Lope Díaz II de Haro, lord of Biscay, and of Urraca Alfonso of León. Her mother was an illegitimate daughter of Alfonso IX of León. She was thus niece of the reigning king, Ferdinand III of Castile. Mencía De Mendoza
Mencía de Mendoza y Fonseca (30 November 1508 - 4 January 1554) was a Dutch culture patron. She was a leading figure of the Renaissance in the Netherlands and known for her progressive opinions of the education of women. Life Mencía was the daughter of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar y Mendoza, 1st Marquis of Cenete and María de Fonseca y Toledo. She married firstly Henry III of Nassau-Breda in 1524, a marriage which encouraged by the reigning monarch, Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V, who was actively working on a plan to make the nobility of Spain and the Low Countries mix. Together, they ultimately had one son who was born in March 1527, and would only live a few hours after his birth. Her second marriage was to Ferdinand, Duke of Calabria in 1542. The marriage was Mencía's second, and Ferdinand's third. The couple became renowned for their patronage in literary and artistic works. Mencía (grape)
Mencía, known as Jaen in Portugal, is a grape variety native to the western part of the Iberian Peninsula. In Spain, it is planted on over , with another in neighboring Portugal. It is primarily found in the Bierzo, Ribeira Sacra, Valdeorras, Monterrei and Dão wine regions. Most wines produced from Mencía have traditionally been light, pale, relatively fragrant red wines for early consumption. This style of wine was the result of post-Phylloxera plantations on fertile plains, which tended to give high yields but diluted wine. In recent years, much more concentrated and complex wines have been produced by a new generation of winemakers, primarily from old vines growing on hillsides, often on schist soils, in combination with careful vineyard management.
