Max Hartung
Maximilian Hartung (born 8 October 1989) is a German right-handed sabre fencer, two-time team European champion, two-time individual European champion, 2014 team world champion, and two-time Olympian. Hartung is chairman of the Athletes Commission of the German Olympic Sports Confederation and the founding president of Athleten Deutschland e.V. He was a member of the Sporthilfe supervisory board for four years, four years in the board of the German Fencing Federation and two years in the board of the German Olympic Committee as the voice of the athletes. He completed his studies in politics, sociology and economics at the Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen and the Universiteit Gent. Nicolas Limbach
Nicolas Limbach (born 29 December 1985) is a German fencer, world champion in 2009 and team world champion in 2014. He won the Fencing World Cup in 2008–2009, 2009–2010 and 2011–2012. Biography Limbach was born in a family closely involved in fencing: his father directs the fencing section of TSV Bayer Dormagen and his younger sister Anna also fences for Germany. He took up the sport at the age of six. In 2005, Limbach won a gold medal in the individual and the team events of the Junior World Championships in Linz. The same year, he climbed his first podium in the Fencing World Cup with a victory in Athens and he joined the national senior team. At the 2005 European Championships, he reached the quarter-finals. Matyas Szabo
Matyas Szabo (born 19 August 1991) is a Romanian-born Hungarian-German fencer, team World champion in 2014. Career Szabo is the eldest son of Vilmos Szabó, bronze medallist at the 1984 Summer Olympics in men's team sabre, and Réka Zsófia Lázár, bronze medallist at the 1992 Summer Olympics and silver medallist at the 1996 Summer Olympics in women's team foil, both from Brașov and members of the Hungarian minority in Romania. When he was two years old, his parents moved to Germany and became fencing coaches at TSV Bayer Dormagen. Szabo began fencing at the age of four because his parents' occupation had him practically live on the piste. He chose sabre, his father's weapon, because the only foilists at TSV Dormagen were girls. Benedikt Wagner (born 14 June 1990) is a German fencer, team World champion in 2014. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he competed in the Men's sabre, but was defeated in the third round by his teammate Nicolas Limbach, the German team which he was a member of were knocked out in the quarterfinals. Gu Bon-gil ( or ; born 27 April 1989) is a South Korean right-handed sabre fencer. Gu is an eight-time team Asian champion, seven-time individual Asian champion, and three-time team world champion. A three-time Olympian, Gu is a two-time team Olympic champion. Early life A native of Daegu, Gu had played football all through elementary and middle school and went on to Osung High School, which was the alma mater of his 2012 Olympics teammate Oh Eun-seok. The fencing coach at Osung High School had already noticed him in middle school and persuaded him to switch sports. He majored in physical education at Dong-Eui University, then one of the few universities which had a fencing team. Kim is a seven-time team Asian champion, two-time individual Asian champion, two-time team world champion, and 2018 individual world champion. Oh Eun-seok (; born 2 April 1983) is a South Korean retired sabre fencer. He is an Olympic and Asian Games gold medalist in the team event. Early life A native of Daegu, Oh was a former runner and took up fencing in middle school. He attended Osung High School, one of the few high schools in the city with a fencing club. It was not until he enrolled at Dong-Eui University, known for its fencing team, that he decided to turn professional. Career Oh won gold in team sabre and silver in individual sabre at the 2003 Junior World Fencing Championships in Trapani, Italy. He also participated in the Universiade hosted by his hometown and won silver in the individual event. Csanád Gémesi (born 13 November 1986) is a Hungarian right-handed sabre fencer, 2018 team European champion, and 2021 team Olympic bronze medalist. Career Gémesi won a bronze medal in the 2003 Cadet World Championships in Trapani. In 2013, he took part in his first World Championships, which were held that year in Hungary. He reached the quarter-finals, where he was defeated by team-mate and reigning Olympic champion Áron Szilágyi. The next season, he climbed his first World Cup podium with a silver medal in Madrid. On his first participation to European Championships, he made his way to the semi-finals. He was defeated by reigning World champion Veniamin Reshetnikov and came away with a bronze medal. András Szatmári
András Szatmári (born 3 February 1993) is a Hungarian right-handed sabre fencer, 2018 team European champion, 2017 individual world champion, and 2021 team Olympic bronze medalist. Career Szatmári took up fencing to follow the steps of his father, who fenced at Vasas SC. His first coach was György Gerevich, son of seven-time Olympic fencer Aladár Gerevich, who also trained Áron Szilágyi and Csanád Gémesi. Szatmári was Junior European Champion and U23 European Championship in 2012 and won the silver medal in the 2013 Junior World Championships in Poreč. He reached the quarter-finals in the 2013 World Championships in home city Budapest, where he was defeated by Russia's Nikolay Kovalev, who eventually took the silver medal.
