Men's European Volleyball Championship
The Men's European Volleyball Championship (''EuroVolley'') is the official competition for senior men's national volleyball teams of Europe, organized by the European Volleyball Confederation ( CEV). The initial gap between championships was variable, but since 1975 they have been awarded every two years. The current champion is Poland, which won its second title at the 2023 tournament. History The first tournament was held in 1948 with participation of six national teams. Being only participant from Eastern Europe, Czechoslovakia captured gold. The teams from Eastern Europe dominated at the tournament for next four decades. The next two editions held in 1950 and 1951 were won by the Soviet Union (who also won two World Championships in 1949 and 1952). However, in late 1950s Czechoslovakia returned to first position. Yuriy Petrovych Panchenko (, born 5 February 1959) is a Ukrainian-born Russian coach and former volleyball player who competed for the Soviet Union in the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow and the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. Russia Men's National Volleyball Team
The Russia men's national volleyball team is governed by the Russian Volleyball Federation and took part in international volleyball competitions. Fédération Internationale de Volleyball, FIVB considers Russia as the inheritor of the records of Soviet Union (1948–1991) and Commonwealth of Independent States, CIS (1992). The Serbia men's national volleyball team represents Serbia in international men's volleyball. FIVB and the CEV consider Serbia the inheritor of the records of SFR Yugoslavia (1948–1991) and Serbia and Montenegro (1992–2006). Lorenzo Bernardi
Lorenzo Bernardi (born 11 August 1968) is an Italian professional volleyball coach and former player, a silver medallist at the Olympic Games Atlanta 1996, two–time World Champion (1990, 1994), and a two–time European Champion (1989, 1995). Bernardi was elected the best player of the 1994 World Championship and 1995 European Championship, and in 2001, the FIVB declared him to be the "Volleyball Player of the Century" with Karch Kiraly. Paolo Tofoli (born 14 August 1966) is an Italian former volleyball player and current coach, standing at 188 cm. Tofoli played 342 times for the Italy national volleyball team. Tofoli was a two-time world champion in 1990 and 1994. He was also a four-time gold medalist at the European Championship (1989, 1993, 1995 and 1999). He represented Italy at four Summer Olympics, winning two silver medals and a bronze medal. Andrea Giani (; born 22 April 1970) is an Italian professional volleyball coach and former player who serves as head coach for the France national team and the Polish PlusLiga team, ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle. Giani achieved numerous successes in the 1990s, including three World Championships with his national team. He was an all-rounder able to play both as an outside hitter and as a middle blocker, but he played several times as an opposite spiker too. Andrea Gardini (born 1 October 1965) is an Italian professional volleyball coach and former player, a silver ( Atlanta 1996) and bronze ( Sydney 2000) Olympic Games medallist, three–time World Champion (1990, 1994, 1998), and four–time European Champion (1989, 1993, 1995, 1999). Julio Velasco
Julio Velasco (born 9 February 1952) is an Argentine former professional volleyball player and coach. He obtained Italian citizenship in 1992. Velasco was inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2005. He is the head coach of the Italy women's national volleyball team, which he led to the gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
