Memorandum Recordings
Memorandum Recordings is an Australian record label dedicated to conserving and archiving important Australian sounds from the brink. It is the inhouse archival imprint for Sydney Distributor, Reverberbation, and reflects the director's keen interest in Australia's rich (and often overlooked) musical past. Future releases include remastered compilations for Lubricated Goat and The Moodists. Record Label
A record label, or record company, is a brand or trademark of music recordings and music videos, or the company that owns it. Sometimes, a record label is also a publishing company that manages such brands and trademarks, coordinates the production, manufacture, distribution, marketing, promotion, and enforcement of copyright for sound recordings and music videos, while also conducting talent scouting and development of new artists, and maintaining contracts with recording artists and their managers. The term "record label", derives from the circular label in the center of a vinyl record which prominently displays the manufacturer's name, along with other information. Within the mainstream music industry, recording artists have traditionally been reliant upon record labels to broaden their consumer base, market their albums, and promote their singles on streaming services, radio, and television. Lubricated Goat
Lubricated Goat are an Australian noise rock band which originally formed in 1986 by multi-instrumentalist Stu Spasm. They achieved brief notoriety in November 1988 for appearing nude on the ABC TV program ''Blah Blah Blah'', wearing only their instruments and shoes. Mainly influenced by the Stooges and the Birthday Party, they are credited for playing a grimy, confrontational style of rock, which preceded grunge. They have issued five studio albums, ''Plays the Devil's Music'' (1987), ''Paddock of Love'' (1988), '' Psychedelicatessen'' (1990), '' Forces You Don't Understand'' (1994) and '' The Great Old Ones'' (2003). The Moodists
The Moodists were an Australian post-punk band. They were formed in late 1980 by Dave Graney on lead vocals, Clare Moore on drums and Steve Miller on guitar, all from punk group the Sputniks. They added bass guitarist Chris Walsh in early 1981, and in April 1983 added guitarist Mick Turner (ex-Sick Things, Fungus Brains). They issued their sole studio album, ''Thirsty's Calling'', in April 1984. Turner left in January 1985 and the group disbanded in 1987. History The Moodists were formed as a rock group in Melbourne late in 1980 after three members of Adelaide-based punk band, the Sputniks, had relocated there: Dave Graney on lead vocals, Clare Moore on drums, and Steve Miller on guitar; they were joined by Steven Carmen on bass guitar. Toys Went Berserk
Toys Went Berserk were an Australian post-punk outfit that formed in late 1985. They released two studio albums, ''The Smiler with a Knife'' (1989) and ''Sensory'' (1990), before disbanding in early 1992. They subsequently reformed in 1998, 2005 and 2016. History Toys Went Berserk were formed in Sydney in December 1985 by Lesley-Anne "Coo" Bennett on lead vocals and piano (ex-Lavender Disaster), Andy Jarvis on guitar (ex-Dusk Furrow), Mark Nicholson on drums (ex-Happy Hate Me Nots), Bill Quarry on bass guitar (ex-Box of Fish), and Steve Turbit on guitar. Lavender Disaster were a Perth-based band with Coo Bennett on lead vocals, Brett Ford on drums, Peter Hartley on guitar and Danny Vervest on bass. Tactics (band)
Tactics are a post-punk group which formed in Canberra in 1977. The line-up changed periodically, with songwriter and vocalist, David Studdert, as the mainstay. They released four studio albums, ''My Houdini'' (December 1980), ''Glebe'' (November 1981), ''Blue and White Future Whale'' (1986) and ''The Great Gusto'' (1990). Which were critically acclaimed and they were respected for the quality of their live performances. However, they did not achieve wider commercial success and remained largely unacknowledged outside of the alternative independent music scene. Their reputation for running against the grain musically, lyrically, and stylistically was described by Bob Blunt as "frenetic, discordant, ndfull of unusual rhythms." Kryptonics
Originally from Perth, Western Australia, Kryptonics were a melodic pop punk band that were active between 1985 and 1992. Kryptonics were contemporaries of notable Perth bands The Stems, The Triffids & The Bamboos, and released a series of 7" singles and 12" vinyl EPs on a number of Australian independent record labels. Biography Guitarist, Ian Underwood first met Cathy Webb (bass guitar) at Balcatta Senior High School in 1982, forming a band, when drummer Shakir Pichler answered a drummer wanted classified ad. The Kryptonics spent eighteen months in rehaersals before their first public performance, supporting The Stems in August 1985. Underwood however was not confident singing and playing guitar at the same time so Michael Reynolds was approached to perform lead vocals for the band. The Wreckery
The Wreckery were an Australian rock and blues group which formed in January 1985 by Robin Casinader on drums, piano, Hammond organ, guitar and violin; Edward Clayton-Jones on guitar, organ and vocals; Tadeusz O'Biegly on bass guitar; Hugo Race on vocals and guitar; Charles Todd on saxophone and organ. By December of that year Nick Barker had replaced O'Biegly on bass guitar. Grong Grong
Grong Grong is a small town that is located in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. The town is situated on the Newell Highway, east of Narrandera in the Shire of Narrandera. The name ''Grong Grong'' is an Aboriginal term meaning "bad camping ground" or "very bad camping ground". Bypass Grong Grong was bypassed in February 2018, to straighten the Newell Highway or A39 by about 2 kilometres and also to eliminate a notorious 25 km/h bend that had caused many accidents, especially trucks overturning. Demography Like many rural localities in the area, the population has progressively declined over a number of years, evidenced as follows: Facilities The Grong Grong post office was opened on 1 November 1881. Chad's Tree
Chad's Tree are an Australian rock band, formed in Perth in 1983. The band's brittle, off-kilter sound evoked the sense of distance, desolation, harshness and loneliness of the Nullarbor Plain (but also its fragile nature), much in the same fashion as fellow Perth outfit The Triffids. Biography The Snarskis were born in London, to Polish refugee parents, and grew up on a 36 hectare farm on the outskirts of Perth, Western Australia. Their teenage musical passions were shared – ''Explosive Hits '77'', the Doors, the Velvet Underground, Television. The band relocated to Sydney in 1984, the remainder of the band followed some months later in James Hurst's kombi. In 1985 Amanda Brown (The Go-Betweens) was asked to record with the band (she appears on two tracks on the band's debut album ''Buckle in the Rail'') and was invited to join the band. The original line-up was Martin Bland on drums, Renestair E.J. on guitar and saxophone, Jim Selene on bass guitar, and Sharron Weatherill on lead vocals and guitar.
