Electoral Districts Of Victoria
Electoral districts of Victoria are the electoral districts, commonly referred to as "seats" or "electorates", into which the Australian State of Victoria is divided for the purpose of electing members of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, one of the two houses of the Parliament of the State. The State is divided into 88 single-member districts. The Legislative Assembly has had 88 electorates since the 1985 election, increased from 81 previously. Electoral boundaries are redrawn from time to time, in a process called ''redivision''. The last redivision took place in 2021, when the Victorian Electoral Boundaries Commission reviewed Victoria's district boundaries. Joseph Tilley Brown
Joseph Tilley Brown (7 February 1844 – 28 September 1925) was an English-born Australian politician. Early life Brown was born at St. John's, Surrey, England, to marine captain Joseph Brown and Amelia, née Tilley. The family migrated to Victoria, Australia when young Joseph was seven. He was educated at Geelong Church of England Grammar School before becoming a clerk, eventually joining the Bank of New South Wales. At Rochester, where he was the bank's first manager, he married Mary Ann Seward on 6 January 1874. Local politics Brown resigned from the bank due to a subordinate's irregularities and became a stock and commission agent. In 1878 he was charged with "boss-cockie dummying"; he subsequently admitted that he helped those in his family and circle of friends to exploit the 1869 Land Act. Electoral District Of Williamstown
Williamstown is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria. It is a 33 km2 urban electorate in the inner south-western suburbs of Melbourne, encompassing the suburbs of Brooklyn, Newport, Spotswood, Williamstown and Yarraville. The electorate had a population of 54,426 as of the 2006 census. Williamstown is one of only three electorates (along with Brighton and Richmond) to have been contested at every election since 1856. It is a very safe seat for the Labor Party, which has held it for all but two terms since 1889 and without interruption since 1904. Notable former members include John Lemmon, who held the seat for a Victorian record 51 years until his retirement in 1955, and former Premiers Joan Kirner and Steve Bracks. Godfrey Carter
Godfrey Downes Carter (1830 – 29 April 1902) was an Australian businessman, politician and mayor of Melbourne from 1884 to 1885. Born in Jamaica the son of a slaveholder, Carter was educated in England, and migrated to Australia in 1853. He would ultimately benefit from the compensation his father received from the British government for 22 slaves upon the abolition of slavery. The electoral district of Evelyn is an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Assembly covering the urban fringe north east of Melbourne. It was first proclaimed in 1859.
