New South Wales Legislative Assembly
The New South Wales Legislative Assembly is the lower of the two houses of the Parliament of New South Wales, an Australian state. The upper house is the New South Wales Legislative Council. Both the Assembly and Council sit at Parliament House in the state capital, Sydney. The Assembly is presided over by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. The Assembly has 93 members, elected by single-member constituency, which are commonly known as seats. Voting is by the optional preferential system. Members of the Legislative Assembly have the post-nominals MP after their names. From the creation of the assembly up to about 1990, the post-nominals "MLA" (Member of the Legislative Assembly) were used. The Assembly is often called ''the bearpit'' on the basis of the house's reputation for confrontational style during heated moments and the "savage political theatre and the bloodlust of its professional players" attributed in part to executive dominance. Joe Lawson (politician)
Joseph Alexander Lawson (27 July 1893 – 14 August 1973) was an Australian politician, elected as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly. Lawson was born in Kanyapella, Victoria, the fourth child of James Bell Lawson and Mary Beattie, and educated at Deniliquin, New South Wales, Deniliquin public school, following a brief period being educated by his grandmother (Johanne Beattie) in Echuca, Victoria. He left school one or two years later (aged about 9), to work on the family farm, but he was an avid reader, with a great love of the Australian poets, Dickens, Burns and many other writers. In his later years, he could still recite a great many poems from memory, not least ''The Man from Snowy River''. In his early twenties, he bought a mixed farming property, ''Oakwood'', about 6 miles south of Deniliquin. Electoral District Of Tamworth
Tamworth is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. It is represented by the Honourable Kevin Anderson MP of the National Party. In 2019 Anderson was sworn in as the Minister for Better Regulation & Innovation, with additional responsibility for Thoroughbred, Greyhound and Harness Racing codes in New South Wales. Tamworth covers the entirety of Tamworth Regional Council, Gunnedah Shire, Walcha Shire and a small part of Liverpool Plains Shire around Werris Creek. History Tamworth was created in 1880 and it elected two members between 1891 and 1894. Electoral District Of Cook's River
Cook's River was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales, created in 1941 and named after inner southwestern Sydney's Cooks River. It was abolished in 1973. History Cook's River was created by the 1940 redistribution, in which the district of Arncliffe was abolished, with Cook's River absorbing east Arncliffe and Rockdale absorbing the balance. Cook's River also included the suburbs of Erskinville, Mascot, St Peters and Tempe. Joseph Cahill was the member for Arncliffe and elected to contest Cook's River. Cook's River was abolished at the 1973 redistribution and was divided between Rockdale and the new district of Heffron.
