Members Of The Australian Senate, 1987–1990
This is a list of members of the Australian Senate from 1987 to 1990. It consisted of twelve senators for each of the six states of Australia and two senators representing each of the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory. All members were elected at the 1987 election following a double dissolution of both houses of parliament, rather than the normal case of only half of the state senators facing election. In accordance with section 13 of the Constitution, Rotation of senators. following a double dissolution of Parliament, the terms for senators commence on 1 July preceding the election – i.e., on 1 July 1987. The Senate decides which senators were allocated the full six-year terms ending on 30 June 1993 and which senators were allocated three-year terms ending on 30 June 1990. Janet Frances Powell AM (née McDonald, 29 September 194230 September 2013) was an Australian politician. A native of Nhill, Victoria, Powell was educated at Ballarat Grammar School and Nhill High School. She graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma of Education. Peter Baume
Peter Erne Baume, AC (born 30 January 1935) is a retired Australian doctor and politician. He was a Senator for New South Wales from 1974 to 1991, representing the Liberal Party. He served as Minister for Aboriginal Affairs (1980–1982) and Minister for Education (1982–1983) in the Fraser Government. Early life and education Baume was born in Sydney, New South Wales and educated at North Sydney Boys High School and Sydney Grammar School. Baume graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Sydney and then studied gastroenterology in the United Kingdom and the United States. He received an MB, BS at the University of Sydney in 1969. He was in private practice as a gastroentologist and physician at Royal North Shore Hospital before entering the Parliament of Australia. Gerry Jones (politician)
Norman Francis Jones (16 August 1932 – 21 April 2017), known as Gerry Jones, was an Australian politician. Born at Roma, Queensland, he was a research assistant before becoming state organiser of the Queensland Labor Party 1967–1972. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Queensland as the member for Everton at the 1972 state election, but was defeated in the landslide Labor loss of 1974. Warwick Parer
Warwick Raymond Parer, AM (6 April 193614 March 2014) was an Australian politician who served as a Senator for Queensland from 1984 to 2000. He was a member of the Liberal Party and served as Minister for Resources and Energy in the Howard Government from 1996 to 1998. Early life Parer was born in Wau in the Australian-administered Territory of New Guinea (present-day Papua New Guinea). Robert Murray Hill (born 25 September 1946) is a retired Australian politician. He is an Adjunct Professor in Sustainability and Co-Director of the Alliance 21 project at the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney. He is also a Commissioner of the Global Ocean Commission. Early life and family Born in Adelaide, Hill studied at Scotch College, Adelaide and the University of Adelaide, where he took degrees in Arts and Law, and later the London School of Economics, where he gained a master's degree in law.
