Australian House Of Representatives
The House of Representatives is the lower house of the bicameral Parliament of Australia, the upper house being the Senate. Its composition and powers are established in Chapter I of the Constitution of Australia. The term of members of the House of Representatives is a maximum of three years from the date of the first sitting of the House, but on only one occasion since Federation has the maximum term been reached. The House is almost always dissolved earlier, usually alone but sometimes in a double dissolution of both Houses. Elections for members of the House of Representatives are often held in conjunction with those for the Senate. A member of the House may be referred to as a "Member of Parliament" ("MP" or "Member"), while a member of the Senate is usually referred to as a "Senator". Kevin Andrews (politician)
Kevin James Andrews (born 9 November 1955) is a former Australian politician and member of the Liberal Party of Australia. He was the Member of House of Representatives for the seat of Menzies from a by-election in 1991 until the 2022 Australian federal election. Andrews is a conservative and a Catholic. Previously, Andrews served in the Howard Government as the Minister for Ageing, Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, and then the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship until the 2007 election, at which his party lost government. Following the 2009 Liberal leadership ballot, Andrews served in the Shadow Cabinet of Tony Abbott as shadow minister for Families, Housing and Human Services until the 2013 election where his party won government. Kim Beazley
Kim Christian Beazley (born 14 December 1948) is an Australian former politician and diplomat. He was leader of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) and leader of the opposition from 1996 to 2001 and 2005 to 2006, having previously been a cabinet minister in the Hawke and Keating governments. After leaving parliament he served as ambassador to the United States from 2010 to 2016 and governor of Western Australia from 2018 to 2022. Beazley was born in Perth, the son of politician Kim Beazley. He studied at the University of Western Australia and Balliol College, Oxford, as a Rhodes Scholar. After a period as a lecturer at Murdoch University, Beazley was elected to Parliament at the 1980 election, winning the Division of Swan. Division Of Macquarie
The Division of Macquarie is an Australian electoral division in the state of New South Wales. The division was created in 1900 and was one of the original 65 divisions contested at the first federal election. It is named for Lachlan Macquarie, who was Governor of New South Wales between 1810 and 1821. The division is located to the west of Sydney, and today it covers a large part of the Blue Mountains, as well as the Hawkesbury region on Sydney's western fringe. The current Member for Macquarie, since the 2016 federal election, is Susan Templeman, a member of the Australian Labor Party. In 2019, Macquarie was the most marginal seat in the country, held by a 0.19% margin on the 2PP. However, in 2022 the Labor margin expanded to a comfortable 7.6%. Kerry Bartlett
Kerry Joseph Bartlett (born 15 April 1949) is an Australian politician. He was a Liberal member of the Australian House of Representatives between March 1996 and November 2007, representing the Division of Macquarie, New South Wales. He was born in Sydney, New South Wales, and was educated at the University of Sydney and Macquarie University, and has a master's degree in economics from the latter. Before entering politics, he was a school economics and history teacher at Wycliffe Christian School, a university economics tutor and a financial planner. Bartlett did not attain a ministry but was Chief Government Whip from 2004 until 2007. His seat was radically altered ahead of the 2007 election. He'd previously held the seat with a fairly safe majority of eight percent, but a redistribution wiped out Bartlett's majority and turned Macquarie into a marginal Labor seat. Geography Since 1984, federal electoral division boundaries in Australia have been determined at redistributions by a redistribution committee appointed by the Australian Electoral Commission. Phil Barresi
Phillip Anthony Barresi (born 8 August 1955) is a former Australian politician. He was a member of the House of Representatives from 1996 to 2007, representing the Victorian seat of Deakin for the Liberal Party. Prior to entering politics he was a registered psychologist and worked in human resources and industrial relations. Early life Barresi was born on 8 August 1955 in Patti, Sicily, Italy. He spent his earliest years in the town of Falcone, arriving in Australia in 1960. He holds the degree of Bachelor of Arts from the Australian National University and a graduate diploma in applied social psychology from Swinburne Institute of Technology. Division Of Cook
The Division of Cook is an Australian electoral division in the State of New South Wales. History Cook was created in 1969, mostly out of the Liberal-leaning areas of neighbouring Hughes. It was thus a natural choice for that seat's one-term Liberal member, Don Dobie, to transfer after the creation of Cook erased his majority in Hughes. The division was named in honour of James Cook, who mapped the east coast of Australia in 1770. In 2006, the Australian Electoral Commission's Redistribution Committee for New South Wales proposed that the division be jointly named for Joseph Cook, the sixth Prime Minister of Australia from 1913 to 1914. However as of 2022 no such action has been taken, and therefore Joseph Cook remains the only eligible Prime Minister who does not have a federal electorate named after him. Bruce George Baird, AM (born 28 February 1942), is a former Australian politician whose career included a stint as Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party in New South Wales. Early life Baird was born in Sydney, and was educated at the University of Sydney and the University of Melbourne, holding a master's degree in business administration from the latter. History The division was proclaimed in 1900, and was one of the original 65 divisions to be contested at the first federal election.
