Welsh Labour
Welsh Labour ( cy, Llafur Cymru) is the branch of the United Kingdom Labour Party in Wales and the largest party in modern Welsh politics. Welsh Labour and its forebears won a plurality of the Welsh vote at every UK general election since 1922, Senedd election since 1999, and European Parliament election in 1979–2004 and 2014. Welsh Labour holds 22 of the 40 Welsh seats in the UK Parliament, 30 of the 60 seats in the Welsh Senedd and 576 of the 1,264 councillors in principal local authorities, including overall control of 10 of the 22 principal local authorities. Rosemary Butler (politician)
Dame Rosemary Janet Mair Butler (''née'' McGrath; born 21 January 1943) is a British politician who served as the Llywydd of the Senedd from 2011 to 2016. A member of Welsh Labour, Butler was the Member of the Senedd (AM) for Newport West from 1999 to 2016. Serving briefly as Secretary for Education in the first two years of the Welsh Government, she was elected Dirprwy Lywydd of the Senedd in May 2007. In May 2011, Butler was elected as the Llywydd of the Senedd. She did not stand for election to the Senedd in the 2016 elections. Leighton Andrews
Leighton Andrews (born 11 August 1957) is an academic and former Welsh Labour politician. He was the National Assembly for Wales member for Rhondda (National Assembly for Wales constituency), Rhondda from 2003 until 2016. He was Department for Education and Skills (Wales), Minister for Children, Education & Lifelong Learning from 2009 to 2011, then Minister for Education and Skills in the Welsh Government until his resignation on 25 June 2013 after an alleged conflict between his own departmental policy and his active campaigning to save a school in his constituency. In September 2014 he returned to the government as Minister for Public Services. He left the Labour Party in 2019. National Assembly For Wales Election, 2007
The 2007 National Assembly for Wales election was held on Thursday 3 May 2007 to elect members to the National Assembly for Wales. It was the third general election. On the same day local elections in England and Scotland, as well as the Scottish Parliament election took place. This election was preceded by the previous Assembly election in 2003. The election saw Plaid Cymru make gains at the expense of Labour, although Labour remain the largest party in the Assembly, as they have since it began. Plaid stated they would make a referendum on devolving further powers to the National Assembly a condition for a coalition. Wales reported that senior civil servants before the election were preparing for three possible coalition administrations: Labour/Liberal Democrat, Labour/Plaid Cymru or Plaid Cymru/Liberal Democrat/Conservative. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. There are numerous reasons why someone may stand for office as an independent. Some politicians have political views that do not align with the platforms of any political party, and therefore choose not to affiliate with them. Some independent politicians may be associated with a party, perhaps as former members of it, or else have views that align with it, but choose not to stand in its name, or are unable to do so because the party in question has selected another candidate.
