National Assembly Of Namibia
The National Assembly is the lower chamber of Namibia's bicameral Parliament. Its laws must be approved by the National Council, the upper house. Since 2014, it has a total of 104 members. 96 members are directly elected through a system of closed list proportional representation and serve five-year terms. Eight additional members are appointed by the President. Since 2015, SWAPO member Peter Katjavivi has been the Speaker of the National Assembly. Namibia's National Assembly emerged on Independence Day on 21 March 1990 from the Constituent Assembly of Namibia, following the elections of November 1989. That election, following guidelines established by the United Nations, included foreign observers in an effort to ensure a free and fair election process. Klaus Dierks

Magus, Windhoek 1989, Namibia series Vol. 1, ISBN 0-620-10225-X, pp. 203, 204 (19 February 1936 – 17 March 2005) was a German-born Namibian deputy government minister, a transport planner and civil engineer in Namibia. Biography Dierks was born in 1936 in Berlin-Dahlem, Germany. He studied civil engineering and history at the Berlin Technical University and earned a diploma in Engineering in 1965 and doctorates in 1965 and 1992. Nickey Iyambo
Nickey Iyambo (20 May 1936 – 19 May 2019) was a Namibian politician and physician who served as the first Vice President of Namibia. A member of SWAPO, Iyambo was a member of the Cabinet of Namibia since independence in March 1990. He was the Minister of Health and Social Services from 1990 to 1996, Minister of Regional and Local Government and Housing from 1996 to 2002, Minister of Mines and Energy from 2002 to 2005, Minister of Agriculture, Water and Forestry from 2005 to 2008, Minister of Safety and Security from 2008 to 2010, and Minister of Veteran Affairs since 2010. He assumed the newly created vice president position in 2015 and served until 2018, when he retired due to poor health. He continued to head the Ministry of Veterans' Affairs until his death. Nangolo Ithete
Nangolo Ithete (22 May 1941 - 23 September 2002) was a Namibian politician. Ithete was born in Okahao, Omusati Region and joined SWAPO in the early 1960s. He went into exile with SWAPO to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in 1963. He studied in Yugoslavia until 1975. From 1976 to 1985, he was SWAPO's chief representative in Zambia and from 1985 to 1989 chief representative in Nigeria. Upon independence in 1990, Ithete was elected to the 1st and 2nd National Assemblies. He also served as a Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (1990-94), later of Environment and Tourism (1995-2000). Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana
Pendukeni "Penny" Iivula-Ithana (born 11 October 1952) is a Namibian politician who served as the secretary general of SWAPO, Namibia's ruling party, from 2007 to 2012. She was a member of the Constituent Assembly of Namibia in 1989 and has been a member of Parliament and member of cabinet since independence in 1990. Iivula-Ithana served in several ministerial positions over a span of three decades. Her last ministerial post was in the interior ministry. After criticising the sitting president Hage Geingob and other senior political leaders in November 2017 she was dismissed from cabinet. She also lost her parliamentary seat at the end of the 2015–2020 legislative period. Michaela Hübschle
Michaela Hübschle (born 21 September 1950 as Michaela Kuntze in Otjiwarongo) is a Namibian politician and former Deputy Minister for Prisons and Correctional Services. Education and profession After attending school in her hometown, Hübschle studied at the University of Pretoria in South Africa from 1970 to 1973. She graduated with a BA. She then worked as a translator for the German embassy in Pretoria until 1976. Hübschle then travelled to the Federal Republic of Germany and was active in the local environmental movement. In 1984, she returned to the South West Africa at that time and worked on various projects in Katutura, a township in Windhoek. Since 2000, Hübschle has been the chairman of the Criminals Return Into Society (CRIS), founded by her, which has been called Change since August 2009. Joshua () or Yehoshua ( ''Yəhōšuaʿ'', Tiberian: ''Yŏhōšuaʿ,'' lit. Hadino Hishongwa
Hadino Hishongwa (born 10 April 1943 at Odibo) is a Namibian former politician. A founding member of SWAPO, Hishongwa was SWAPO's chief representative to Scandinavia, West Germany and Austria from 1977-83 during the Namibian War of Independence. Hishongwa was appointed deputy Ministry of Labour (Namibia), minister of Labour and Manpower Development upon Independence of Namibia in 1990. In 1995 he was transferred to the Ministry of Youth and Sport (Namibia), Youth and Sport ministry, again as deputy minister. He held this position until 2005. Otto Herrigel
Otto Herrigel (27 June 1937 – 13 May 2013) was a Namibian businessman, and politician. He served as Namibia's first Minister of Finance between 1990 and 1992. Herrigel was born in Walvis Bay and grew up in Swakopmund. He studied economics at University of Heidelberg, and in 1971 obtained a doctoral degree from University of Basel, his thesis was about the demographic and economic development of South West Africa since 1921. A member of SWAPO since before Independence of Namibia, Herrigel worked as a businessman and farmer, before he was appointed Namibia's first Minister of Finance on 21 March 1990. Prominent businessman and then-Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Harold Pupkewitz commented "Dr Herrigel s aman of decision-making abilities and sound judgement". Herrigel resigned in 1992, reportedly due to differences with president Sam Nujoma over fiscal policy and the procurement of a presidential aircraft. Marco Mukoso Hausiku (25 November 1953 – 26 August 2021) was a Namibian politician who was deputy Prime Minister of Namibia from 2010 to 2015. Gert Hanekom
Gerhardus Jacobus 'Gert' Hanekom (30 March 1930—2 December 1999), affectionately known as Oom Gert ( af, Uncle Gert), was a Namibian politician serving in several ministerial portfolios. Biography Hanekom was born on 30 March 1930 in Redelinghuys in South Africa Western Cape. He attended school there and graduated from the University of South Africa as a chartered accountant. He subsequently worked as accountant in the private sector. In 1956 he took up accounting work in Windhoek and founded ''Hanekom & Kie'' in 1975, an accounting company that developed into the local PricewaterhouseCoopers dependance. Although initially a member of the Afrikaner nationalist National Party (NP), Hanekom disassociated with its apartheid policies over time. He and other NP members left and founded Action National Settlement in 1986, a party that later joined the National Patriotic Front. Hidipo Livius Hamutenya (17 June 1939 – 6 October 2016) was a Namibian politician. A long time leading member of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO), Hamutenya was a member of the Cabinet of Namibia from independence in 1990 to 2004, serving in several important ministerial portfolios. He was defeated in a bid for the party's presidential nomination in 2004 and left SWAPO to form an opposition group, the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP), in 2007. He was elected to the National Assembly of Namibia with RDP in the 2009 general election. He was forced to step down as RDP president on 28 February 2015 and rejoined SWAPO on 28 August 2015.
