Melodías Porteñas
''Melodías porteñas'' (''Buenos Aires Melodies'') is a 1937 Argentine film, a musical directed and written by Luis Moglia Barth. It is based on a struggling radio station, and depicts the events leading up to and following the disappearance of the station's star tango singer, played by Amanda Ledesma. It may be seen as an exposé of the sensationalism of radio stations of the period. Enrique Santos Discépolo won praise for his performance as the increasingly desperate director of the station. Plot The film is set in the Radio Moderna broadcast station. The station director, Martín Martínez, is interpreted by Enrique Santos Discépolo, who also helped with the script. The director is worried about withdrawal of ads and falling profits, and throughout the film is looking for something exciting for listeners that will make the audience grow again. Luis Moglia Barth (12 April 1903 - 18 June 1984) was an Argentina, Argentine film director and screenwriter, and one of the influential directors in the Cinema of Argentina of the classic era. He directed some 30 films between 1927 and 1959, often screenwriting for his pictures. He died in Buenos Aires, aged 81. José Mármol
José Mármol (1818 – 1871) was an Argentine journalist, politician, librarian, and writer of the Romantic school. Biography Born in Buenos Aires, he initially studied law, but abandoned his studies in favor of politics. In 1839, no sooner had he began to make a name for himself than he was arrested for his opposition to Argentina's conservative caudillo, Juan Manuel de Rosas. He was held in irons for six days. A year and a half later, the political climate spurred him, as it had many other Argentine dissenters, to flee the country. He found passage to Montevideo on a French schooner. He was welcomed by other exiles, among them Juan Bautista Alberdi, Florencio Varela, Esteban Echeverría, Juan María Gutiérrez, and Miguel Cané. Three years later, the siege of Montevideo by Rosas's ally Manuel Oribe led Mármol to flee yet again, this time to Rio de Janeiro. Alberto De Zavalía
Alberto De Zavalia (4 May 1911 – 7 May 1988 in Buenos Aires) was an Argentine film director and film producer. Biography De Zavalía was born in Buenos Aires to a middle-class, well-off family. He completed law school but never worked as a lawyer, instead dedicating himself to movie-making, an industry that was then thriving. In 1935, he co-founded with Luis Saslavsky the producer SIFAL, which disbanded that very same year, but each of its founders managed to debut as filmmakers: De Zavalía directed ''Escala en la ciudad'', which he also wrote, while Saslavsky directed his second and most famous movie, ''Crimen a las tres''.
