Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Tripoli (in Latin: Archeparchy Tripolitana Graecorum Melkitarum) is a diocese of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church suffragan of the Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Tyre. It is governed by Archeparch Eduard Daher, BC. Territory and statistics The archeparchy extends its jurisdiction over the faithful of the North Governorate in Lebanon. Its archeparchial seat is the city of Tripoli, where is located the cathedral of Saint George, built in 1835. The territory is divided into 15 parishes and has 10,000 Catholics. History The see of Tyre is an ancient one, already known in the fourth century, was restored on 21 March 1897. On 28 April 1961 it gave a portion of territory for the creation of the Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Latakia of the Melkites. On 18 November 1964 it was elevated to the rank of archeparchy. The Maronite Catholic Archeparchy of Tripoli (Tripoli of the Maronites) (in Latin: Archieparchia Tripolitanus Maronitarum) is a non-Metropolitan Archeparchy (Eastern Catholic archdiocese) of the Maronite Church in the north-west of Lebanon. It is immediately subject to the Maronite Patriarch of Antioch (not part of any Ecclesiastical province) and the Roman Congregation for the Oriental Churches. George Riashi
George Riashi (Qaa el Reem, near Zahlé, Lebanon on November 25, 1933 – October 28, 2012) was the Greek Melkite Catholic bishop of Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Tripoli and all North Lebanon. Life George Riashi was one of nine children of Khattar and Zahia Riashi. Until 1948 he attended the local school and then moved to the Saint John's Basilian Seminary. Until 1953, he remained in the Basilian seminary and made his temporal vows. His religious name was Athanasius, according to Athanasius of Alexandria. Riashi started his religious studies to become a priest in 1955 in the Basilian Chouerite Order's Mar Yohanna Seminary in Khenchara and later in Saint Joseph University in Beirut in the American University of Beirut. From 1958 to 1965 Riashi studied philosophy, theology, computer science and mathematics. In 1962 he became a subdeacon and 1963 was ordained deacon. Augustin Farah (4 May 1910 in Kara, Lebanon – 31 March 1983) was an archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Tripoli and the Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Zahle and Forzol. Ecclesiastical career On September 8, 1937, he became an ordained priest. Farah was named on March 7, 1961, for the Archeparchy of Tripoli and was ordained bishop on June 18, 1961. The Archeparchy of Beirut and Byblos (in Latin: Archieparchia Berytensis et Gibailensis Graecorum Melkitarum) is a metropolitan eparchy of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church since 1881, an Eastern Catholic church in communion with the Roman Catholic Church. Suffragan Diocese
A suffragan diocese is one of the dioceses other than the metropolitan archdiocese that constitute an ecclesiastical province. It exists in some Christian denominations, in particular the Catholic Church, the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria, and the Romanian Orthodox Church. Eduard Georges Daher, B.C., (born 23 April 1973 in Quaa, Lebanon) is the current Melkite Greek Catholic Archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Tripoli. Life Eduard Daher entered at the minor seminary of the Basilian Chouerite Order in 1985 and on 28 August 1994 made his perpetual profession vows. He studied Philosophy and Theology at Saint Paul of Harissa and the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, and later Canon Law at La Sagesse University in Beirut.
