Melbourne Tram Route 67
Melbourne tram route 67 is operated by Yarra Trams on the Melbourne tram network from Melbourne University to Carnegie. The 12.7 kilometre route is operated out of Glenhuntly depot with Z and B class trams. History Route 67 was first allocated to the line between Carnegie and the City (Swanston Street) on 1 November 1970, as part of a network-wide renumbering scheme. Prior to that, the line to Carnegie was serviced by route 4. When route numbers were first introduced to Melbourne's tram network, route 67 was allocated to the route between Point Ormond and Elsternwick. A number revision in 1938 led to route 67 being allocated between Balaclava Junction and St Kilda Beach via Dandenong Road and St Kilda Junction. Further changes on 1 August 1955 led to Route 67 becoming a shortworking for West Coburg services terminating in the City ( William Street) rather than Domain Road. Z-class Melbourne Tram
The Z-class are single-unit bogie trams that operate on the Melbourne tram network. Between 1975 and 1983, 230 trams spanning three sub-classes were built by Comeng, Dandenong. The design was based on two similar Gothenburg tram models, and a prototype built by the Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board. While the Z1 and Z2-class trams were very similar, the Z3-class had significant design changes. Since introduction they have had a variety of liveries, and modifications. The Z1 and Z2-class trams have been retired, with 108 Z3-class trams remaining in service. Night Network (Melbourne)
Night Network is Melbourne's weekend overnight public transport system, which commenced operation on 1 January 2016 for a 12-month trial, which was later extended by six-months, and made permanent in April 2017. It comprises all of Melbourne's regular electric railway lines, six tram lines, 21 night bus services, and four regional coach services. Prahran & Malvern Tramways Trust
The Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust (PMTT) was a former tram operator in Melbourne, Australia. The trust was formed in 1907, with its first line operating in 1910. Its functions were taken over by the Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board in 1920. History The PMTT was formed under the ''Prahran & Malvern Tramways Trust Act 1907'' to construct and operate electric trams in the municipalities of Prahran and Malvern. The original members of the trust were Alexander Cameron (Chairman), W. O. Strangward (Secretary), H.S. Dix (Manager and Engineer), S. Bangs, William Knox MLC, Walter Lewis and Thomas Luxton. Domain Interchange
The Anzac Station tram stop, formerly but still colloquially known as Domain Interchange, is a major interchange on the Trams in Melbourne, Melbourne tram network. It is located on St Kilda Road south of Domain Road, adjacent to Kings Domain, and is one of the busiest interchanges on the system, being used by eight tram routes. The newest iteration opened on 19 December 2022, replacing an earlier structure built in 2013 that was demolished in April 2018. It features one island platform with two tracks, reduced from the previous stop that had two island platforms and four tracks. The Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board (MMTB) was a government-owned authority that was responsible for the tram network in Melbourne, Australia between 1919 and 1983, when it was merged into the Metropolitan Transit Authority. It had been formed by the merger of a number of smaller tramway trusts and companies that operated throughout the city. History In 1869 Francis Boardman Clapp set up the Melbourne Omnibus Company (MOC) which ran horse-drawn trams in the inner suburbs of Melbourne. The company carried five million passengers. The Melbourne Tramway and Omnibus Company (MTOC) was the company which established and operated Melbourne's cable tram system from 1885 to 1916. History The MTOC was started by Francis Boardman Clapp, who had come to Australia from the United States in 1853 to search for gold. Victoria Street is one of the major thoroughfares of inner Melbourne, running east–west for over six kilometres between Munster Terrace in North Melbourne and the Yarra River.
