Meira Del Mar
Olga Isabel Chams Eljach (August 21, 1922 - March 18, 2009), better known by her pseudonym Meira Delmar, was a Colombian poet of Lebanese descent. She is considered one of the most famous Colombian poets of the 20th century and published seven books of poetry in her lifetime. She was a member of the Academia Colombiana de la Lengua since 1989. Biography She was born in Barranquilla, Colombia from Lebanese immigrants Julián E. Chams and Isabel Eljach. Her father had emigrated in the late 19th century to Haiti and then to Colombia. She was the youngest of three children and had two siblings, William and Alice. She started writing poems when she was 11 years old. She studied Latin and Music at the Universidad del Atlántico. She also studied fine arts in Italy. Her first published poems were in a Cuban magazine called ''Vanidades'' ("Vanities"). From these first publications, she adopted the pseudonym "Meira Del Mar". Barranquilla () is the capital district of Atlántico Department in Colombia. Stone And Sky (movement)
Stone and sky ( es, Piedra y cielo) was a Colombian literary movement that appeared in 1939 and whose name is taken from the title of a 1919 poetry book published by Juan Ramón Jiménez. Members of this literary movement were often called ''piedracielistas''. The movement corresponds to a generation of writer born between 1910 and 1915. There was no formal manifesto or school for the movement. Characteristics of this group were, among many others, hypersensitivity, and emotion and insolence against consecrated and canonized forms. Juan Lozano y Lozano was a prominent critic of the movement. Lebanese People
The Lebanese people ( ar, الشعب اللبناني / ALA-LC: ', ) are the people inhabiting or originating from Lebanon. The term may also include those who had inhabited Mount Lebanon and the Anti-Lebanon Mountains prior to the creation of the modern Lebanese state. The major religious groups among the Lebanese people within Lebanon are Shia Muslims (27%), Sunni Muslims (27%), Maronite Christians (21%), Greek Orthodox Christians (8%), Melkite Christians (5%), Druze (5.2%), Protestant Christians (1%). The largest contingent of Lebanese, however, comprise a diaspora in North America, South America, Europe, Australia and Africa, which is predominantly Maronite Christian. As the relative proportion of the various sects is politically sensitive, Lebanon has not collected official census data on ethnic background since 1932 under the French Mandate. The Academia Colombiana de la Lengua (Spanish for ''Colombian Academy of Language'') is an association of academics and experts on the use of the Spanish language in Colombia. It is based in Bogotá, Colombia's capital, and is a member of the Association of Spanish Language Academies. History The academy is the oldest of all the Latin American Spanish language academies, the first official academy founded outside Spain. It was founded in 1871 by a group of writers and philology specialists, including Manuel María Mallarino; Rufino José Cuervo, the father of Hispanic-American philology; and Miguel Antonio Caro. Juana Fernández Morales de Ibarbourou, also known as Juana de América, (March 8, 1892 – July 15, 1979) was a Uruguayan poet and one of the most popular poets of Spanish America. Her poetry, the earliest of which is often highly erotic, is notable for her identification of her feelings with nature around her. She was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature four times. Biography She was born Juana Fernández Morales on March 8, 1892, in Melo, Cerro Largo, Uruguay. The date of Juana's birth is often given as March 8, 1895, but according to a local state civil registry signed by two witnesses, the year was actually 1892. Juana began studies at the José Pedro Varela school in 1899 and moved to a religious school the following year, and two public schools afterwards.
