''Megastygarctides'' is a genus of tardigrades, the only one in the subfamily Megastygarctidinae in the family Stygarctidae. The genus was first described and named by McKirdy, Schmidt & McGinty-Bayly in 1976. It was placed in the new subfamily Megastygarctidinae in 1998 by Bello and de Zio Grimaldi. Tardigrade
Tardigrades (), known colloquially as water bears or moss piglets, are a phylum of eight-legged segmented micro-animals. They were first described by the German zoologist Johann August Ephraim Goeze in 1773, who called them Kleiner Wasserbär ("little water bear"). The Stygarctidae are a family of tardigrades. The family was first described by Schulz in 1951.
