Medes
The Medes (Old Persian: ; Akkadian: , ; Ancient Greek: ; Latin: ) were an ancient Iranian people who spoke the Median language and who inhabited an area known as Media between western and northern Iran. Around the 11th century BC, they occupied the mountainous region of northwestern Iran and the northeastern and eastern region of Mesopotamia located in the region of Hamadan (Ecbatana). Their consolidation in Iran is believed to have occurred during the 8th century BC. In the 7th century BC, all of western Iran and some other territories were under Median rule, but their precise geographic extent remains unknown. Although they are generally recognized as having an important place in the history of the ancient Near East, the Medes have left no written source to reconstruct their history, which is known only from foreign sources such as the Assyrians, Babylonians, Armenians and Greeks, as well as a few Iranian archaeological sites, which are believed to have been occupied ...

Grace Medes
Grace Medes (November 9, 1886 – December 31, 1967) was an American biochemist, who discovered tyrosinosis—a metabolic disorder today known as tyrosinemia—and studied fatty acid metabolism. She was awarded the Garvan-Olin Medal in 1955 for her work. Early life and education Grace May Medes was born in Keokuk, Iowa, daughter of William Johnson Medes and Kate Francisco Hagny Medes. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Kansas, both in zoology, and a PhD at Bryn Mawr College in 1916. Career After earning her PhD, Medes went to teach at Vassar College in 1916 serving first as an instructor in zoology until 1919 and then as an assistant professor of physiology until 1922. She was the first female faculty member with a PhD in the physiology department at Vassar. Medes moved to Wellesley College in 1922, where she served as associate professor of physiology until 1924. Medgyesegyháza
Medgyesegyháza ( sk, Medeš) is a town in Békés County, in the Southern Great Plain region of south-east Hungary. Geography It covers an area of 64.32 km2 and has a population of 3558 people (2015). History The Jews in the city The Jewish community in the city was established in the second half of the 19th century and most of them were engaged in the grain trade. The synagogue was built in 1870 and the community had a Jewish school. In 1942, young Jews from the city were sent to forced labor and sent to the front of Ukraine, where the Hungarians fought alongside the Germans. Four townspeople were killed. In 1944, after the Germans entered Hungary, all the local Jews were rounded up and finally transferred to Békéscsaba. Most of them were taken to the Auschwitz extermination camp. Medes Islands
The Illes Medes ( es, Islas Medas) is a small and craggy group of seven islets in the Costa Brava area of the northwestern Mediterranean Sea. Administratively, the Medes Archipelago belongs to the Baix Empordà comarca, Catalonia, Spain. The islands are protected as a nature reserve; scubadiving is popular but is thus regulated there and requires permission. The islands are located close to the shore, east of the coastal town of L'Estartit. Islands *Meda Gran, the largest island in the group, has an area of and is the only island of a considerable size.
