"Meant to Fly" is a song written by Chantal Kreviazuk, Raine Maida and Gaby Moreno, for 2006 ''Canadian Idol'' winner Eva Avila. The song was released as the first single from her debut album, '' Somewhere Else'', on September 26, 2006. After she was crowned the winner of the fourth season, "Meant to Fly" began receiving airplay across Canada. Both Avila and Craig Sharpe performed the song separately during the September 11 grand finale performance show and were both praised by ''Idol'' judges Sass Jordan, Farley Flex, Zack Werner and Jake Gold. Chart performance "Meant to Fly" topped the Canadian Singles Chart for nine non-consecutive weeks, beginning October 5, 2006. Eva Avila
Eva Avila (born Eva Gougeon-Ávila on 25 February 1987) is a Canadian singer, songwriter and actress. She won the fourth season of the CTV reality show ''Canadian Idol'' in 2006. Early life Avila was born in Gatineau, Quebec. Her father introduced her to music. She has been singing in public since age 2, and at age 9 was a winner on ''Homegrown Cafe'', a talent show on CJOH-TV in Ottawa. Prior to ''Idol'', she worked as a postal clerk and a beauty consultant. She is a former winner of the ''Jeune Diva du Québec'' contest. Avila also participated in another competition for a Quebec TV téléroman aired on Radio-Canada called ''Virginie''. She usually speaks English and French, as well as a little Spanish because her father is of Peruvian origin. The Canadian Singles Chart was a chart compiled by the American-based music sales tracking company, Nielsen SoundScan, which began publication in November 1996. It was published every Wednesday and also published on Thursday by '' Jam!''/Canoe. It was superseded by the '' Billboard''-published Canadian Hot 100 in 2007. The Canadian Hot 100 is a music industry record chart in Canada for songs, published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine. The Canadian Hot 100 was launched on the issue dated March 31, 2007, and is currently the standard record chart in Canada; a new chart is compiled and officially released to the public by ''Billboard'' on Tuesdays but post-dated to the following Saturday. Jake Gold (born April 4, 1958) is an American-born Canadian music manager. He was a judge on the ''Canadian Idol'' television program.
