McHale's Navy Joins The Air Force
''McHale's Navy Joins the Air Force'' is a 1965 film based upon the television 1962–1966 sitcom ''McHale's Navy''. Series supporting players Joe Flynn and Tim Conway are the leads for this sequel to the first film made in 1964, also named ''McHale's Navy''. Most of the film is based on their two characters, particularly Ensign Parker. Plot Binghamton ( Joe Flynn) is sent to a staff meeting in Brisbane, Australia and is forced to use the PT-73 to get there after Fuji (Yoshio Yoda) sabotages Lt. Carpenter's (Bob Hastings) PT-116. While in Brisbane, Binghamton orders the PT-73 crew to remain on board, but they switch uniforms with Russian crewmen on the adjoining docked ship so they can leave the ship without being noticed. In a mix-up Parker (Tim Conway) switches uniforms with Lt. Harkness (Ted Bessell), who then is mistakenly arrested by the Russian NKGB and put on the Russian ship, but he later escapes and spends the remainder of the movie trying to get back to his post. Lionel Lindon, ASC (September 2, 1905 – September 20, 1971) was an American film cameraman and cinematographer who spent much of his career working for Paramount. In 1950, he went freelance and began to work in television as well as film, continuing to work until the year of his death. Joseph Henry Ploski (April 16, 1904 – May 17, 1993) was a Polish-American film and television actor. He was known for his appearance in the 1953 film ''Stalag 17'', which starred William Holden, Don Taylor and Otto Preminger. Ploski Was born in Poland. Initially working as a baker, he saved his money to attend at a drama school. Ploski performed in vaudeville in Hollywood, California, and worked as a straight man for comedian Joe Lewis. Clifford Charles Norton (March 21, 1918 – January 25, 2003) was an American character actor and radio announcer who appeared in various movies and television series over a career spanning four decades. Early years Norton was born in Chicago, and grew-up there, graduating from Senn High School. His early jobs included selling shoes and working as a floorwalker. ''McHale's Navy'' is a 1964 technicolor comedy film based on the 1962–1966 black and white television sitcom ''McHale's Navy'' starring Ernest Borgnine, Tim Conway and Joe Flynn, which had in turn originated with a one-hour anthology drama starring Borgnine entitled ''Seven Against the Sea''. The film version was directed by series producer Edward Montagne and its supporting cast includes Carl Ballantine, Gavin MacLeod, Jean Willes, Claudine Longet, and George Kennedy. The film was followed by a sequel entitled ''McHale's Navy Joins the Air Force'' which did not feature Borgnine or Carl Ballantine.
