James McAra
James McAra (October 17, 1876 – September 7, 1947) was a Scottish-born businessman and political figure in Saskatchewan, Canada. He served as mayor of Regina from 1927 to 1930 and from 1932 to 1933. He was born in Edinburgh, the son of Peter McAra, and came to Regina in 1883 with his parents. He first found work delivering newspapers and later worked in the offices of the government of the Northwest Territories The Northwest Territories (abbreviated ''NT'' or ''NWT''; french: Territoires du Nord-Ouest, formerly ''North-Western Territory'' and ''North-West Territories'' and namely shortened as ''Northwest Territory'') is a federal territory of Canada. .... Lesley McAra is Chair of Penology at the University of Edinburgh She is a fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and was appointed a CBE in the New Year's Honours List 2018, for services to Criminology. Career McAra grew up in Hull as an expat Scot, and returned to Edinburgh to study at University. McAra's areas of academic research include the sociology of punishment, the sociology of law and deviance, youth crime, juvenile justice, gender justice and comparative criminal justice.
