Mayor Of Maui
The Mayor of Maui County is the chief executive officer of the Maui County, Hawaii, County of Maui in the U.S. state, state of Hawaii. The Mayor has municipal jurisdiction over the islands of Kahoolawe, Lanai, Maui and Molokai. The Mayor of Maui County is the successor of the Royal Governor of Maui of the Kingdom of Hawaii. The current mayor of Maui County is former Maui County Council member Michael Victorino, who was first elected in November 2018. He was preceded by Alan Arakawa, who was first elected in November 2003, then voted out of office in 2006, and re-elected in 2010. Michael Victorino
Michael Paul Victorino (born August 24, 1952) is an American businessman and politician, serving since 2019, as the eighth Mayor of the County of Maui. In November 2017, he announced intentions to run for county council mayor, ultimately defeating Council Member Cochran. Victorino also previously served as Wailuku's council member from 2006 to 2017. He and his wife Joycelyn have two children, including retired Major League Baseball player, Shane Victorino. Personal life Mike Victorino was born on the island of Hawaii on August 24, 1952. Linda Lingle
Linda Lingle (''née'' Cutter; June 4, 1953) is an American politician, who was the sixth governor of Hawaii from 2002 until 2010. She was the first Republican governor of Hawaii since 1962. Lingle was also the state's first female and first Jewish governor. Prior to serving as governor, Lingle served as Maui County mayor, council member, and chair of the Hawaii Republican Party. During the 2004 Republican National Convention in New York City, Lingle served as chair of the convention during the absence of permanent chair Dennis Hastert from the convention floor. Charmaine Tavares
Charmaine Tavares (born 1943 Hana, Hawaii) is an American politician and teacher. Tavares served as the Mayor of Maui from January 2007 to January 2011. She unsuccessfully sought a second four-year term in office in the 2010 Maui mayoral election. Biography Early life Tavares was born in 1943 in Hana, Hawaii, in eastern Maui, to Hannibal and Harriet Tavares. Her father, Hannibal Tavares, served as the mayor of Maui from 1979 until 1991, the longest tenure of any Maui mayor to date. Tavares is the descendant of Japanese and Portuguese immigrants who settled in Hawaii. Her mother, Harriet, is of Japanese descent and her father was of Portuguese descent. James Apana
James K. Apana, popularly known as Kimo Apana, served as Mayor of the County of Maui in Hawaii from 1999 to January 2, 2003. Born in Wailuku, he graduated from Kamehameha Schools and obtained a speech degree at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. Hannibal Tavares
Hannibal M. Tavares (September 24, 1919 – January 17, 1998) was an American politician who served as the 2nd Mayor of Maui from October 1979 until January 2, 1991. He was the longest-serving mayor of Maui. Life Tavares was born in Makawao, Maui, Hawaii, on September 24, 1919. In 1978, Maui Mayor Elmer Cravalho won reelection to a second term, but he suddenly left office only months later. The vacancy left by Cravalho's resignation necessitated a special election, special mayoral election. In October 1979, Hannibal Tavares won the special mayoral election to complete the remainder of Cravalho's term. Tavares went on to win reelection and became Maui's longest-serving mayor to date. Maui County Council
Maui County, officially the County of Maui, is a county in the U.S. state of Hawaii. It consists of the islands of Maui, Lānai, Molokai (except for a portion of Molokai that comprises Kalawao County), Kahoolawe, and Molokini. The latter two are uninhabited. As of the 2020 census, the population was 164,754. The county seat is Wailuku. Maui County is included in the Kahului-Wailuku-Lahaina, HI Metropolitan Statistical Area.
