Mayor Of Kilkenny
The Mayor of Kilkenny ( ga, Cathaoirleach) is an honorific title used by the head of Kilkenny Borough Council. The Council has jurisdiction throughout its administrative area which is the city of Kilkenny in the Republic of Ireland. The office was established in the 16th century and had significant powers. The office was all but abolished under the Local Government Act 2001. All that remains of the office, per section 11 of the Act is a symbolic role: "Subject to this Act, royal charters and letters patent relating to local authorities shall continue to apply for ceremonial and related purposes in accordance with local civic tradition but shall otherwise cease to have effect.". Kilkenny Borough Council
Kilkenny (). is a city in County Kilkenny, Ireland. It is located in the South-East Region and in the province of Leinster. It is built on both banks of the River Nore. The 2016 census gave the total population of Kilkenny as 26,512. Wheeler-Cuffe Baronets
The Wheeler-Denny-Cuffe, later Denny-Wheeler-Cuffe, later Wheeler-Cuffe Baronetcy, of Leyrath in the County of Kilkenny, was a title in the Baronetage of Ireland. It was created on 30 December 1800 for Jonah Wheeler-Denny-Cuffe. He later assumed the surname of Denny-Wheeler-Cuffe and served as Mayor of Kilkenny in 1823. The second and third Baronet used the surname Wheeler-Cuffe only. The title became extinct on the latter's death in 1934. The third Baronet was survived by his sister Pauline Florence Elizabeth. The baronetcy was the last created in the Baronetage of Ireland. The family were descended from Jonas Wheeler, Bishop of Ossory, who died in 1640, and his son Oliver, who settled at Grenane, County Laois. John Otway Cuffe, 2nd Earl of Desart (20 February 1788 – 23 November 1820) was an Anglo-Irish politician and peer. Early life Born on 20 February 1788, Cuffe was the son of Lady Anne Browne, daughter of Peter Browne, 2nd Earl of Altamont and Otway Cuffe, 1st Earl of Desart. His father was the second son of John Cuffe, 1st Baron Desart, a High Sheriff of County Kilkenny, by his second wife, Dorothea Gorges. He was educated at Eton College (1802), Christ Church, Oxford (1805) and the University of Edinburgh (1807). He succeeded to his father's titles in 1804. Career Desart served as Member of the Parliament of the United Kingdom for Bossiney, in Cornwall, between 13 December 1808 and May 1817. Edmund Butler, 11th Viscount Mountgarret (27 July 1745 – 16 July 1793) was an Irish peer and politician. John Wandesford, 1st Earl Wandesford (24 May 1725 – 12 January 1784) was an Anglo-Irish peer. Wandesford was the son of George Wandesford, 4th Viscount Castlecomer and Susannah Griffith, daughter of Reverend John Griffith and Susannah Cross, and great-granddaughter of Edward Worth, Bishop of Killaloe. He succeeded to his father's viscountcy on 25 June 1751, and took his seat in the Irish House of Lords on 22 November that same year. Otway Cuffe, 1st Earl of Desart (25 November 1737 – 9 August 1804) was an Anglo-Irish peer and lawyer. Desart was the second son of John Cuffe, 1st Baron Desart by his second wife, Dorothea Gorges. He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford. He was a barrister and became a member of the Inner Temple in 1756. Sir William Evans Morres, 1st Baronet (1710–11 October 1774) was an Anglo-Irish politician. Morres was the son of Francis Morris, of Castle Morres, County Kilkenny, by Catherine Evans, daughter of Sir William Evans, 1st Baronet.
